Verizon’s first 7-inch Android tablet in ‘Ellipsis Family’ Launched

Verizon Wireless is finally out with its own tablet that it will be selling under its own brand name. The carrier finally announced its Ellipsis 7 tablet yesterday. This Android based tablet is pretty well designed and will now be competing with other 7 inch tablets like Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX in the affordable tablet market segment.  Though its specifications were a mystery at the time of launch apart from the information that the tablet is loaded with an “HD” screen, front face camera and LTE connectivity; the carrier has just announced that the tablet has 1280×800, 7 inch display and offers 1GB RAM, 8GB storage space and a quad core processor of 1.2GHz that hasn’t been clearly specified.

Further, it seems to be working on Android Jelly Bean’s near-stock version. It will be available at a price of $249.99 off contract from this November 7th. Now this pricing makes it a bit higher than the price at which Nexus7 starts, i.e. $229 from Google.

As for now nothing but the inexpensive pricing is making it attractive as its specifications aren’t very interesting. Verizon with its own tablet in the market now will be competing with the devices from other manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung, which the carrier sells in its stores currently! With its new entry into the market, it is an obvious that Verizon is using third party manufacturer (such as Quanta or Foxcon – the ODMs) for designing and production of its tablets.

Verizon claims Ellipsis 7 to be the very first product in its Ellipsis family. This suggests that the company may move on with newer manufacturing plans or updates in the future, though nothing is clear at present. The tablet will also have access to RedBox Instant streaming service and notably this service will run as a joint venture with Verizon. But one can hardly make any guesses about the kind of devices that it will release as a part of Ellipsis family in the future.
