IBM Develops Mall Movement Analytics Software For DLF
International Business Machines (IBM) has come up with an interesting solution to offer Insights about People Movement and Shopping Patterns for Real Estate Firm Delhi Land and Finance (DLF).
Meant to be deployed in DLF’s shopping malls, the solution will be soon be used at high-end shopping mall DLF Promenade in New–Delhi. The solution is designed to offer insights about Shoppers.
What has been developed? The service is essentially a very sensitive location–aware and shoppers’ position driven platform. The platform will require the consent of the shopper and will be linked to the Mobile Phone. Thereafter the platform will perform real-time analytics to convert data gathered from shopper’s movements in the mall to provide meaningful interactions for smartphone users, shared IBM via a statement.
Essentially, the platform is meant to collect information about the shopper based on the whereabouts in the mall. The movement pattern of the shopper should help the mall owner to understand the shopping behavior and eventually have a better understanding about consumer preferences. IBM’s solution should bring about a revolution in the way shoppers are studied and malls are designed, shared Dinaz Madhukar, Senior Vice President and Head, DLF Promenade Mall,

How will the solution work? Interestingly there seems to be some benefits for the shoppers as well. The solution utilizes location–bound Wi-Fi sensors and routers to determine the precise location of the user and their proximity to a store. This allows customers, who have signed up for the mobile app, gain access to preferential services or discounted goods, based on the shopping preferences and past behavior they have put into the tool.
Being an opt–in service, IBM’s solution doesn’t appear to violate any privacy laws and may surely come in handy for mall–developers and promoters who will be able to design the structures and arrange shops in the most optimum way. What do you think?
