Amazon India Has Tied Up With BPCL To Launch Pickup Services In Delhi And Mumbai

Amazon India has reportedly launched its Pickup service in 2 key Indian metros, Mumbai and Delhi. This service lets online buyers designate a pick up point in case deliveries cannot be made to their addresses.

The news was first broken by BGR India and Amazon later confirmed that they have launched this service in a pilot phase in both the cities. In order to pull this off, the company has partnered with BPCL to use its In and Out stores at major petrol pumps in these cities.

Many people cannot get convenient delivery because of the fact that there might be no one at home during the delivery time. A lot of people choose to get their deliveries at their workplaces but this may not be the best option. Amazon will look at the results from this pilot and will then bring the feature to smaller cities.

Amazon India has put out the following statement,

“We are continually innovating to find solutions that enhance the convenience and experience for our customers on Amazon.in. Towards that we are running a pilot in Delhi and Mumbai with BPCL to ascertain the benefits and mechanics of enabling a pick-up service. It is too early to comment any further. Depending on results, we will take a call on how and what we want to roll out and we will make further announcement on this at an appropriate time.”

The option to choose pickup points is shown during the Delivery address section of the checkout process on the website. Once the package has been received to the pickup location, the buyer will be intimated. They can then collect their package from that spot.

This adds another layer of convenience to the online shopping experience. I have an inkling that competing websites will work towards adding this feature soon enough.
