Google Partners Ray Ban and Oakley For Google Glass

Google Glasses are about to get stylish thanks to Google’s latest partnership. The company is collaborating with Ray-Ban and Oakley to design and produce an exclusive collection of eyeglass frames that incorporate the technology.

Luxottica Group, whose brand portfolio includes Oakley, Alain Mikli, Ray-Ban, and Vogue-Eyewear, announced the partnership in a press release saying the companies will “design, develop, and distribute a new breed of eyeware for Glass.”

The alliance with Italian eyewear company Luxottica Group represents Google’s latest attempt to make wearable technology look less geeky as it tries to develop new ways to ensure people can stay connected to the Internet wherever they go.“We see Glass as the next chapter in this long story. Light, simple and modular, Glass introduces new functionality as your glasses get smarter – but bringing your own style to Glass is just as important,” Google announced in the blog post.

The deal, which will also allow Google Glass to be sold through the Italian eyewear giant’s thousands of stores, may help Glass gain traction despite privacy concerns and questions about its performance. No specifications of the Glass were revealed by either of the partners also date of availability of these stylish glasses is not revealed yet.

Google currently sells more basic versions of Google Glass eyewear only through a handful of locations to selected buyers who have to apply to purchase the $1,500 device. Earlier in January this year, Google began selling its first batch of Glass-compatible prescription frames. Last month a facial recognition app was launched for Google Glass soon after 5 minute games were released in January. While in December last year Google Glass received official Google Play Music app that lets users stream music.

I think this is a clever move from Google as lot of people do care about how the Google Glasses will look on them.
