BBM Updates Android & iOS App With Stickers, Large File Transfers And More

BBM which recently crossed 85 million monthly active users is finding more ways to attract users. Today, the dedicated mobile messenger from Blackberry has received an update  on Android and iOS  that adds support for stickers and sending large files. Stickers which were in limited beta last month lets you download a variety of packs right inside the app from the BBM Shop. Each pack contains between 10 to 25 individual stickers that have been designed by artists and also relate to popular brands like WWE players and Shaun the Sheep.  Sticker packs are either free or cost $1.99, and are billed through the device’s app store.

Along with stickers, BBM is also getting the ability to share attachments like photos, videos and files upto 16MB. Prior to the update, users could send files only upto 9MB. Finally, BBM app for iOS and Android will enable users to send photos in multi-person chats that will make it easy to share photos to several people at the same time.

LINE Messenger, WeChat, Hike, and even Facebook Messenger are other players which currently offer stickers on their platform. Hence, adding sticker support is one of the many ways from which Blackberry wants can monetize.

BlackBerry previously confirmed it will be bringing BBM to Windows Phone and Nokia X platforms “in the coming months.” Moreover, it is also planning to integrate advertisements into the service.

The latest version of BBM for BlackBerry 10 (v10.3.1), BlackBerry OS (v8.2), Android smartphones (v2.1) and iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (v2.1) will begin to roll out this afternoon.
