Ever since YouTube revolutionized how product designers and manufacturers share their design and manufacturing processes, the resulting content is just as varied and colorful as the end products themselves.

But despite the myriad of different fabrication processes and design stories that one can get lost in, few are as unique—and downright fascinating—as YouTuber Primitive Technology.

The unknown bushman, who resides in Australia, defines the practice of primitive technology as”

“…a hobby where you make things in the wild completely from scratch using no modern tools or materials. This is the strict rule. If you want a fire- use fire sticks, an axe- pick up a stone and shape it, a hut- build one from trees, mud, rocks etc. The challenge is seeing how far you can go without modern technology.”

Fair enough. No matches. No screwdrivers. No power tools. No funny business.

To date, the mysterious bushman has documented the creation of everything from a thatched dome hut to a cord—driven power tool. More recently, he shared what is perhaps his most deadly creation yet in the form of a spear and spear thrower; a small length of wood that gives a thrower extra power and distance.
