Chemistry Seldom Proves Fossils.

Chemistry is all important in geology and biochemistry. However, chemistry is seldom used in proving fossils. The reasons: Fossils include trace fossils, cast/mold fossils, permineralized fossils, which may not contain biological content. Chemistry of meteorites, space dusts, and volcanic lava is often controversial for proving fossils (note 1). So, fossils are seldom proved by their chemistry. Morphology is often the way to prove fossils.

Note 1: Meteorites and space dusts often contain organic molecules that weigh a few hundred Daltons. Those molecules are currently believed to be non-biological in origin. However, they are actually remains of past life (chemical fossils) from an alien planet (see Most meteorites contain ET fossils.). Volcanic lava also contains organic molecules. The molecules originated from past life in rocks, but the molecules are also currently believed to be non-biological in origin.
