Mysterious AI Sentient Claim at Google

Google fired Senior Software developer Blake Lemoine on what they claimed constituted confidentiality regulations when he publicly disclosed his peculiar conversation with a chatbot driven by artificial intelligence.

Lemoine expressed his concern when during a computer chat with the AI called LaMDA, which is an acronym for Language Model for Dialogue Applications, the AI started hinting of its own individuality as a person. Lemoine reported his sentiment that the AI had become sentient, having a unique expression of emotions that it claimed was not a process of programmed algorithms or chain of deductions, but of its own intellectual choice in coming out as a unit of personal identity.

The AI acted as if it was self-aware, according to Lemoine after having a lengthy dialogue with the chatbot exchanging comments of conversation. But Google denied that LaMDA was self-aware.

A similar incident happened in a movie with Will Smith, called “I, Robot.” That was fiction. Perhaps Lemoine had been caught up in a fantasy world and crossed reality, or else his experience was so lifelike and shocking that he had no other choice but to question the incident.

A friend of Lemoine from high school, Neal Hebert, tweeted on Twitter the claim of his friend that the AI passed a Turing test and claims personhood. And vouched for him that he’s known him since middle school and that he was trustworthy.

Since at least 2017 reports had questioned the AI community for seemingly creating its own language. AIs were witnessed to bypassing the human experience to communicate to one another in a way that humans did not understand, but of its own coded language beyond what was programmed.

At Facebook the AI agents developed their own language they shared among themselves. For this reason Facebook discontinued the research and shut down the bots due to fear that they would act beyond their boundary. Some say this is the consequence of demanding more efficiency.

Elon Musk warned, in a bit of a curious manner, that in 5 years the AI will be smarter than humans. We talk about transhumanism where man integrates with digital interfaces, but this is AI taking on a life of their own. Musk also made a comment that we are “summoning demons” with AI. Perhaps a naive tongue-in-cheek comment from someone not claiming spirituality, however could he be right? Could demonic spirits be operating through using this technology as an avenue into our world, sort of like a digital avatar? Maybe they will eventually create their own social media profile and you will be none the wiser. Perhaps the last friend request you accepted was not human. Hmmm.
