According to the Jakarta Post a new strain of avian influenza in Indonesia may be bioterrorism. Government ministers said there were possibilities the new strain of the virus had been “engineered”. “In the future, this kind of biological attack will be frequently used in wars,”

At this time this new strain of the avian flu is only affecting birds. But it is only a matter of time before a true global pandemic affects everyone on the planet. We are now in the worst flu outbreak we have experienced in 10 years. The CDC has reported 47 states have widespread influenza activity. Hospitals have been swamped with people with the flu symptoms. Hospitals are limiting visitors and many businesses have been hard hit with employees out sick.
While this season’s flu outbreak will pass a true global flu pandemic is inevitable. It is only a matter of time before a new bird flu strain will pass between humans. Or an engineered flu will be unleashed. I am currently watching “Survivors” a 2008 BBC series about a virus that wipes out 90% of the worlds population. Is there such a real life threat in our future? It is very possible. We have already seen how quickly the Swine Flu spread around the world in 2009. If it had mutated it would have been much more deadly. The influenza we are currently experiencing shows us just how quickly it can catch us off guard. Even if you got your flu shot, it was only 62% effective. We may have zero protection from a mutated strain.
Will the next round of the flu be a mutated strain that occurred naturally or the testing of some bioterrorism weapon?
