Survival 101 – Places I’d Scavenge for Radio and Communications Materials

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

When I say “apocalypse”, please don’t misunderstand. I actually meant any kind of destructive force, whether it’s man-made or made by the wrath of Mother Nature. If one day, a nuclear holocaust or a super typhoon almost successfully destroy your home town or city, then you will need to do everything you can to survive. If you happen to live near an area where buildings and establishments are dependent on computers and all sorts of high-tech communications equipment, then consider yourself lucky. If you and your group are low on food and water, building your own communications center is a must. You can gather parts and put them together until you’ve successfully built a radio control device and you can call for help. However, what about those who live in the rural areas? Where exactly do you find such parts?

Actually, this isn’t much of an issue anymore. Most data centers and communication centers nowadays

prefer to build their presence in the rural areas. They know for a fact that competition is strong enough in the urban scene, so they usually build and establish their businesses in places far from the city.

Ain’t that convenient?

So, if you need to gather parts to build your own communications center and you’re not too sure where to go, here are a few places that you can go. Provided if you’re near the place, that is. The Pentagon – Well, who wouldn’t want to grab some computers and stuff from the Pentagon? Dedicated on January 15, 1943, the Pentagon is considered the center of the United States Defense force and is the actual base of operations for its Intelligence sector. When a building is owned by the military, then there is bound to be heaps of parts and junk that you can use to build yourself not only a communications outpost, but a bunker as well!

Walmart – Of course. Your friendly neighborhood Walmart stor is packed with gadgets and gizmos aplenty that you’ll probably don’t need to visit some of the other places in this list. Walmart happens to be a convenience store, so you’ll probably pick up some food and water. Well, provided that no one’s went there yet and looted the place. A radio station – This is a good answer to those living in the rural areas. You can’t miss a good old local radio station when you’re in town. And if ever some of the equipment needs fixing, you and your companions can find repair parts and tools in the vicinity too.

Junk shop – The easiest place to find spare parts and old transistor radios. Usually, most junk shops have heavy equipment that are meant to last, if not incinerated though by a nuclear blast. A quick trip to the junk store should give you some good materials for making a make-shift radio, although don’t expect the quality to be as good though.

For years, humans have proven to be very resilient and resourceful. Whatever the calamity may be, we all endure and try to bring back our lives, no matter what challenges we may face. Remember these important tips and perhaps one day, it may save you and others.

My question is, whats she doing with a hot cup of coffee “in” her table?

Ok, all jokes aside, i see you pictured the Baofeng UV5R dual band HT radio which i happened to of purchased a couple because they are so damned cheap because they are made in China but i’m telling you now, you get a lot of bang for the buck.

These babies have 129 programmable channels and frequencies (i’m not an FCC license holder but your supposed to be to operate these radios) but you have to be careful because these babies wont only pick up police and rescue channels but you can also transmit on them which will get your ass in a lot of trouble lmao.

Anyway, go to amazon and check them out for as low as 43 bucks apiece (cheaper than commercial walkie-talkies and 100 times more range) you’ll have to download a “CHIRP” to program easily as manual programming is difficult but can be acheived only you will not be able to add “tags” to the channels without the CHIRP software which is free.

You don’t have to broadcast to be picked up by FCC. Just by turning it on you can be traced.
