Honey and its effect on MRSA and Other Natural Remedies

Because of the massive overuse of antibiotics by the big factory farms, superbugs are becoming common. Stuff like MRSA is becoming more common in hospitals. I heard a doctor once say that you need to leave the hospital in order to get well. The instance of infectious diseases is becoming more and more common. Every time you turn around there’s a new report in the media of another new superbug.

With the overuse of antibiotics, the new bugs aren’t affected by current treatments. Big pharmaceutical companies are making money hand over fist by duping people into believe they have all the answers. Unfortunately, they’ve got most doctors right in their pocket. So, with this in mind, I’ve done my own research and applied much of what I’m writing about. This is stuff that actually works, not just something I’ve simply read about.

In Australia and New Zealand there is a brand of honey called Manuka or Jellybush Honey. It comes from bees that feast on nectar from the flowers of the Leptospermum scoparium bush. This is more commonly known as the “Tea Tree” bush; the same family of plant that Tea Tree Oil is made from.

Superbugs include the flesh eating bacteria and can be found in, on and around pools, spas, locker rooms, bathrooms, hospitals, animals and people in general. In other words, just about anywhere. Manuka or Jellybush honey has been proven to kill all types of MRSA, E. coli and P. aeruginosa, and its antibacterial properties are being researched extensively.

Manuka honey has a very powerful, strong, medicine-like flavor. I do not recommend using it in your herbal tea. However, the stuff is fantastic as a topical antibiotic. Interestingly enough, in Victoria, Australia, it is used extensively on cattle, sheep and horse stations (ranches). The store owner I talked to said that the vast majority of honey he sells is bought by ranchers.

All honey has antibiotic properties, but Manuka honey has antibiological activity ratings or UMF (unique manuka factor) anywhere from 5+ on up. I saw one in a store with a 100+ rating. I’ve heard that the best honey to use has a medium grade UMF rating, but to be most effective, you need at least 15+. You’re going to have trouble buying Manuka honey in the U.S., but I did find an online site that sells it. http://www.manukahoneyusa.com/SecureShopping.htm  The stuff is expensive, but worth it. Tea Tree Oil

I know everyone has probably heard about tea tree oil, but I can’t say enough about it. The oil is derived from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant. Contrary to the “tree” part, it is a bush, not a tree, but can grow to resemble a tree. The aborigines of Australia used it for thousands of years as part of their bush tucker. They used it for tooth aches, headaches, cuts and wounds, insect repellant and many other things.

The pure oil has amazing antibiotic and antifungal properties. I once used it to kill a Sydney funnel web spider that was in my home. I have also used it to kill a persistent fungal ear infection. My kids once brought home from school a number of little pests that resided in their hair: lice. It spread to everyone but me. I was using a tea tree oil shampoo.

I finally figured out what was keeping me lice free and mixed in a bit of tea tree oil with their shampoo. Not only did it kill the lice, but it also killed the eggs. Simply mix in about a quarter teaspoon of oil into a glob of shampoo. Lather up and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Repeat one time and it will kill all the bugs in your hair.

I’ve used the oil many times as a topical antibiotic for persistent infections. I’ve also used it to help with a tooth ache. However, be warned, the stuff tastes HORRIBLE, but it dulled the pain. For people who are sensitive to the oil, it can cause rashes and pain.

Hawthorne Berry and Grape Seed Extract

I have high blood pressure and I don’t like taking medicine. After doing some research, I settled on a combination of hawthorn berry and grape seed extract. I’ve been taking it for a few months now and my blood pressure dropped over 20 points. It’s good stuff and it really works.

DLPA

There was another article about DL-phenylalanine on the blog, so I won’t go into it too extensively. The stuff works. I have pretty severe arthritis and my wife and oldest daughter both have scoliosis. We all take DLPA and have very little daily pain. I’ve heard that it can increase the blood pressure, however, from what I’ve read, it is the l-phenylalanine that is the culprit. The D and L properties seem to negate this effect. Still, I’d keep an eye on the old BP until you’re satisfied that it is safe for you.
