Useless Degrees vs. Practical Skills

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A couple of days ago, our friend and neighbor Enola Gay put up a blog post about her 17 year old son’s ambition to become a butcher. As homesteaders who frequently call upon the services of butchers, I can think of no finer and more useful profession. This young man has a solid career path open to him which virtually guarantees employment no matter how dire the economy.

But someone, it seems, took exception to his path in life and wrote a comment on her blog post, to wit:

Why don’t you get Mr. Dumb Ass, er, I mean, Mr. Hand Grenade into a college so that Mr. H.G. won’t be yet another loser walking around armed waiting to go postal when the world, which he is not prepared for, overwhelms him and he realizes that he is a working class cog and will never get ahead or have anything on a butchers wages.

(Master Hand Grenade is Enola’s nom de plume for her oldest son.)

The words were vile, of course, but Enola handled the snarker with her usual class and grace.

Now hold these thoughts in mind for a few moments while we switch to another scenario.

My husband brought to my attention a blog which mentioned a recent college graduate named Andria who has an “Honors BA in Social Justice and Peace Studies” and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Gender Studies.

And how are these lofty degrees serving her? She writes: “I have a honors BA and I’m defending my MA thesis in two weeks. I am also apply for jobs and I can only find stuff in the service industry. I applied for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk job today. My degrees mean NOTHING. I am at the end of my rope.”

Andria may sneer at the service industry, but it begs the question: Where does she want to work? Or perhaps more pointedly, where does she EXPECT to work? Who hires Gender Studies majors?

I don’t mean to be snarky or to denigrate certain areas of study; I genuinely want to know. Who hires Gender Studies majors?

It makes me wonder what on earth Andria was thinking when she decided to devote five or six years of her life and possibly acquire a heavy student loan debt in order to obtain degrees which are hard to utilize in the best of times but essentially become useless in a bad economy. Did she think through her career path ahead of time? Did she look into the number of paying jobs available to Social Justice, Peace Studies, and Gender Studies experts?

As Vox Day so cuttingly put it, “And she just figured this out NOW? She has a degree in ‘Social Justice and Peace Studies.’ She will soon have a second degree in ‘Gender Studies.’ She’s very lucky the service industry will consider hiring anyone with a pulse, because any employer looking at those degrees has to knows she is a walking, talking, sexual harassment and/or discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen. In fact, a Gender Studies degree actually has negative value, given that credentialed feminists are considerably more likely to cause disruption in the workplace. It’s bad enough to acquire garbage degrees in economic boom times. It’s even worse to do so in the middle of a five-year depression.”

This is harsh, yes, but I see his point. I don’t know if I’d be inclined to hire her either.

All this makes Master Hand Grenade’s choice to become a butcher seem wise, forward-thinking, and intelligent. Not incidentally, since I’m well acquainted with this young man’s character, I’d hire him in a heartbeat for ANY job, including hotel front desk clerk.

For those who think Gender Studies majors are somehow morally superior to “working class cogs” like butchers, please check back in ten years and let’s compare Master Hand Grenade’s and Andria’s career paths.

Something to think about for young people thinking about their futures. Think practical, folks. Think practical.

Good article, I’ve worked with many academics over the years and I can tell you they are the biggest bunch of narrow minded programmed morons I’ve ever encountered. I nick named one IYCHIWAHIDE meaning if You can’t hit it with a hammer it doesn’t exist. I called him Itchy for short, he actually loved it it gave his ego a huge boost not that I’m into feeding anyone’s egos. Another one I worked with had a degree in Social Science and was one of the worst racists and biggots I’ve ever met. To quote him during the Israel strike against Palestine some years ago when they were dropping phosphorous bombs he was referring to the Palestinians and to quote: So what they’re just gypos anyway……………………I got up and walked out. The Universities and curiculums offered are carefully molded by our elite in order to maintain the Matrix so our educated morons can simply keep it in existence and maintain it at the same time by attempting to correct everbody else’ view point after all only THEY KNOW BEST. Try speaking to an academic about spirituality. Now I”m not saying that they ALL are like that, I’ve met many also who have demonstrated their awareness of the Matrix, so all is not lost yet. Of course it’s the current industrial industries they are trained to maintain. Another point of interest I noted was in the course structure in Gender Studies – do they actually know the difference between health and sickness? In the medical industry it is the reverse. We don’t have a health industry we only have a sickness industry. Our health industry has been attacked and is still under attack by the elites, who wish to maintain the sickness industry to reap the profits. After all you can’t patent nature. So often these morons are being taught exactly the opposite of what reality really is. As I said they are deeply programmed into the Matrix academic structure and taught that anything outside their paradigm is to be ignored. Good little robots they are. Good on those who have broken through and are part of the resistance. As for the vile postee who condemed Enola’s son she still undoubtedly thinks McDonalds is food and you lose weight by drinking diet coke……………….sad they are.

Gender Studies majors will most likely end up with pc teaching jobs to meet quotas for Affirmative Action to further the Brave New World agenda for future generations.

There’s a strong grassroots wish for this present house of cards to “collapse” so life can feel real again. Independent individuals are presently frowned upon as anti-social when the reverse is actually true — the socialists are anti-social control freaks.

Blue collar jobs are the way to go for young people these days. Perhaps even more importantly is that a strong work ethic is in place. Too many think they are entitled to have a job just because they need the money. Skill and disciplined willingness to use that skill will make a living.

Parents can instill a work ethic in their children through age-appropriate expectation. Toddlers can learn to put their toys away. Parents place loving hands on their child’s and “show” them how — we are having fun putting the toys away — yay! etc., folding and putting away laundry, feeding and caring for pets, weeding the garden — together with parents. Spend time helping the kid clean their room — they really do want to spend time with you. Parents have kids help in the kitchen. Soon they’ll do the planning, shopping, cooking and clean-up. Kids love feeling useful. Soon they will bring you your coffee and paper. Balance work first then factor in lots of good play time. Really not that hard.

I’m astounded at how many young women believe cooking is demeaning and have a total aversion to food prep. My sewing students are overjoyed when they’ve finished their project. I make them kiss the project saver (seam ripper). LOL.

Cogness is a mental cage. Work is to survive responsibly and serve our loved ones in all freedom.

WE need to stop teaching all this easy useless liberal arts mush like literature and sociology. We need engineers and scientists and auto repairmen and businessmen. Verbal skills only train you to be an entertainer or a social worker.

My son is in his 3rd year as an unpaid Ferrier apprentice. Unpaid because it’s real life schooling with a professional “Master.” They work on multi-million dollar race & show horses. It’s hard work…but honest work… and I am proud to support him until he gets to a point where he’s entrusted with his own clients. Horses need solid hoof care and shoes and what folks pay per hoof is amazing… good workmanship deserves good pay. And if things get real bad & horses get real popular again… couldn’t hurt!

Laugh at him if you want. But he’s good at what he does and will be working when dime-a-dozen college grads with no work experience or ethics remain unemployed…oh yeah, he won’t have a $100,000 college debt hanging over him either… during a depression.
