Natural Ant Killer

“It’s been ruined like ants on a picnic.” This phrase has been used many times for good reason. Have you ever had a problem with ants? How can such a tiny little animal be such a nuisance? Well, if you have ever found a trail of ants leading into your pantry only to find your favorite trail mix covered with them, you understand the phrase all too well. Did you know that there are ways that you can control the ants without having to use harsh pesticides? At Herbal Health Care, there are several good natural ant killers that are good alternatives to buying a can of bug spray.

Ants live in colonies. The workers forage for food and bring it back to the colony. The individual worker ant leaves a scent trail for other ants basically shouting, “Hey guys! There’s good eats this way! Just follow me!” Using the basic understanding of ants and how they live, you can use that to your advantage and eradicate the whole nest. Here are some ways to get rid of the ants:

Borax Bait
I love Borax! there is so much it can do. Mix two tablespoons of borax with jam, jelly or  honey to make a paste. Place the mixture on a paper plate where the ants congregate. The ants will take it back to their nest where it will kill the ants. You can find borax in the laundry aisle at most stores.

Sugar Bait
2T Borax
2T Black Strap Molasses or Honey
1T Yeast
1T Sugar
Mix together and place on a lid or bottle cap where ants frequent

Ant death.

Cinnamon Sticks and Garlic Cloves
Ants don’t like the scent of cinnamon or garlic. Just place these items near places that ants can come in and they will avoid it.

Black Pepper
Ants really don’t like pepper. If you sprinkle black pepper on ants and they will scatter. Pay attention to where they go and you will be able to track down the nest and treat that as well.

Mint
Mint interferes with the ant’s sense of smell. Plant mint around your house where the ants can come in. Place mint leaves in the corners of your pantry and on the window sill. You can mix mint oil with water and cinnamon and you can deter them. As a bonus, this works for cockroaches and fleas as well.

Corn Starch Honey
Mix 2tsp of cornstarch with 1tsp of honey to make a thick paste. Place this on a lid near ants. The ants cannot digest the cornstarch and when they take it back to the colony, the entire nest will be affected.
