How To See How Much Daylight Is Left Without Using A Clock

You are outside in the wilderness and the sun is getting low in the horizon. It is time to make a decision: do you keep going or should you stop to set up camp? Here is a simple tip that I found on Groovy Matter.com on how to gauge how much daylight is left in the day.

Count the finger widths between the sun and the horizon. Each finger represents about  15 minutes. When the sun is two hands above the horizon, then there is two hours of daylight left. You should leave about 2 hours time to set up camp and shelter.

It is important to note that if you are located close to the poles, the sun will hover over the horizon longer and that will give you an inaccurate reading using this method.

So there you have it, you can see how much daylight is left by just using your hand. Pretty cool, huh?
