By Josey Wales

The often debated controversy over which weapon is the most suited for self defense and personal protection the AR 15 or the AK 47. Below are two videos, the first video is an example of a fully automatic AR 15 vs a AK 47. In my opinion the AR 15 has a much faster action than the AK 47, allowing you to fire more rounds in less time.

One thing that can’t be argued is preformancee in adverse conditions. The AR 15 does not preform well in dirty, muddy, nasty conditions. While the AK 47 can be burried in the mud for a week and you can dig it out of the mud and fire it just like the first day you took it out of the box.

The AR 15, most likely will fail under the same conditions, AR 15′s need to be kept clean for them to function properly. Now let’s take a look at these two weapons side by side at the firing range.

The first video is brought to us by Wisconsin Tactical.

Ready for some full auto AR vs. AK battle?

I couldn’t resist an invitation to spend the day shooting, especially when the guys from Wisconsin Tactical mentioned they’d be bringing a full auto AK-47 and AR-15.

I had a great time pouring lead downrange and ended up with some cool slow mo AR-15 vs. AK-74 footage I hope you’ll enjoy. Stay tuned for more from the awesome machine gun shoot hosted by the great guys at Wisconsin Tactical!

Now for some semi automatic video footage of the AR 15 vs the AK 47.

AK47 WASR 10/63 VS DEL-TON AR15 Semi Automatic.

Here’s a detailed look at the AR15 and AK47 platform to help you make a decision when it comes to choosing a main battle rifle for SHTF scenarios.

In this video we will take a look at the construction of the gun itself so that you can make a decision that matches your own conform level with firearms. As a prepper you should be looking at the positives and flaws of the systems rath.

Both the AR 15 and the AK 47 have their strengths and weaknesses, hopefully the information in these videos can help you decide which rifle is right for you in a SHTF scenario.

The AK-47 is a selective-fire, gas-operated 7.62x39mm assault rifle, first developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. The designation AK-47 stands for Kalashnikov Automatic Rifle, 1947 Model (Russian: Автомат Калашникова 47, Avtomat Kalashnikova 47). It is officially known as Avtomat Kalashnikova. It is also known as a Kalashnikov, an “AK,” or, in Russian jargon.

This full auto M14 Video was sent to me by one of my followers, I am including the footage of this rifle just for the full auto perspective it displays. This M14 has a full auto option switch, which I am told makes it legal in the U.S. But please verify this before you consider purchasing one of these rifles. This is some great full auto footage as well.

I have fired thousands upon thousands of rounds out of both the M16 and the actual AK47 (not the 7.62×39 Chinese variant). I’m here to tell you, in combat, the first thing you want to do is find an AK47 and shoulder that M16. The M16 will get you killed in combat, quickly.

The AK47 fires at about 80-rounds per minute slower than the M16, but other than that, it fires dirty, it fires consistently, and it fires under actual combat duress without jams, that is WHEN you need it to perform right.

The AK47 is also firing a MUCH LARGER .308 caliber round, while the M16 is firing almost the equivalent of a .22 LR bullet at 3500-feet per second. It is not a ‘one shot wonder’ in most cases, and most any body armor will stop it from penetrating. At close ranges (under150 meters), the AK is a true show-stopper with AP rounds.

If you are shooting prarie dogs on the plains, and want a $1000 rifle that you can top with a $400 scope to make those 400-600 meter ‘dog shots’, then pick the AR. It is precise if set up properly, and more precise at ranges past 350-meters than the AK. That said, most combat is engaged at ranges under 75-meters, and up close-and-personal, the AR can’t compete. It is the difference between stabbing someone with an ice pick and clubbing them with a machete. The AR is the ice pick.

For actual self-defense, there is no question – the AK is the all out winner.

I agree the AK is a better choice. I would like to see the AK-74 a newer version of the 47 compared to the AR-15. Anyway, one thing to consider is ammo. As of now it is my understanding Russia is not allowing AK ammo to be sent to the US.

If your AK is firing a 5.45×39 then it’s an AK-74 and not an AK-47. From the video of the small woman firing the AK on full auto I’m inclined to believe it was an AK-74. Few small women, in fact few large men, can hold an AK-47 steady on full auto firing the 7.62×39 round.

My wife and I standardized on the AK-74 for that specific reason. She is small and cannot easily handle the recoil of an AK-47 and the heavy mags. On the other hand she is perfectly comfortable with the small recoil of the AK-74 and the lower weight of the AK-74 mags.

Since the AK-74 uses a round similar in weight, recoil and performance to the AR-15 round and the AK, by design, is far more reliable than the AR I have to consider the AK-74 as far superior to the AR. Just my opinion.

      Your opinions mileage may vary.

P.S. if you’re comfortable doing a little gunsmithing it’s certainly possible to replace out the barrel on an AK-74 and replace it with one that will handle the .223 that the AR fires making it ammo-compatible with ARs.

That woman in the video look her up on you tube fate of destiny she can handle some massive guns, but yes I think it even says AK-74 in the video.

    • MJ12

Since when is either the AR15 or the AK47 considered “battle rifles”?

    • greenghost

The only instance you would ever find full auto useful is if you are being over-run at close range by a large number of enemy. Most of the time full auto will just waste all of your ammo and throw you quickly off target. You can fire plenty fast in semi-auto.

Who gives a monkeys anyway? They’re only stupid guns! I’d rather water me hose than fire a gun!

One thing about the old Soviet made AK’s, is that there round would tumble, once it left the barrel and would continue to tumble, while it went through your body. Survival from that round, is nowhere near the survival rate of the Mattee Mattel M-16.

That round would take be chunks of meat out of you……I know, I found out in 1968, just how terrifying that weapon is. When your pos is peppered with 47 rounds, you know you have been shot at.

You said, “One thing that can’t be argued is preformancee in adverse conditions. The AR 15 does not preform well in dirty, muddy, nasty conditions. While the AK 47 can be burried in the mud for a week”.

      1) Please spell correctly. burried is spelled, buried.

      2) The AR in the long piston variant performs equally to the AK, sealing out debris and keeping the bolt action free and cool.

      3) You compared the sorry communist rifle against America’s (originall) rifle, the AR 10 which originated as a .308. Remember, the US Chair Force and US Farmy insisted it should chamber the paltry .223 over the .308, the equivalent to a sorry piece of junk – AK 47.

      4) The AR platform is a more precise shooter.

      5) Ar’s are way lighter, more versatile for customizations and cooler.

      • Mot

        1) Please spell correctly. ( originall ) is spelled, original.

      • BOHICA

Come on now…. I don’t care if your AR cost you 3000USD and you have the best piston setup in the world, you get crud in that starchamber you are done for.
I have served overseas twice and can tell you no amount of cleaning and maintenance can keep that sand out and while I’m on that topic lets talk about stoppages and misfeeds, AR you do SPORTS and hopefully that clears your rifle.
An AK you pull the charging handle tilt rifle and shake…..

And your number 5 is a nogo…. I have seen peoples tacticool rifles come out weighing more than a slick AK. When it comes to armaments you can throw that barbie tactical crap out the window. A true rifleman and marksman doesn’t need that gonzo crap on his rifle to be effective in the field.

This war over AK/AR will never end, there are fanboys on all sides spouting off why one is better than the other but at the end of the day it is your choice. With training one could become deadly with either rifle regardless of their shortcomings.
