Stephen Hawking – Higgs Boson Could Spell The End of The Universe

Professor Stephen Hawking has told the BBC that artificial intelligence could spell the end for the human race.
In an interview after the launch of a new software system designed to help him communicate more easily, he said there were many benefits to new technology but also some risks.

Higgs’ elementary particle underpins existence in our universe might become unstable, warns renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. The energy potential of the ‘God particle’ is so vital for the entire universe it could make the cosmos collide, he concludes.

In a preface to a new book he contributed to, which is essentially a collection of lectures gives by famous scientists and astronomers called ‘Starmus’, Hawking shared his concerns regarding the Higgs Boson, that Hawkins suspects of being unstable and potentially capable of decay.

“The Higgs potential has the worrisome feature that it might become metastable at energies above 100bn gigaelectronvolts (GeV),” Hawking wrote.

The imminent danger of that power potential is that it could end time any time soon!

“This could mean that the universe could undergo catastrophic vacuum decay, with a bubble of the true vacuum expanding at the speed of light. This could happen at any time and we wouldn’t see it coming,” Hawking explained, acidly noting that “A particle accelerator that reaches 100bn GeV would be larger than Earth, and is unlikely to be funded in the present economic climate.”

All due to the Higgs Boson elementary particle, which was recently discovered by physicists at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider during staged experiments to find this long-ago predicted key element of the Standard Model of particle physics.

The field created by the Higgs Boson is believed to give mass to other particles by slowing their movement through the space vacuum. The existence of such particle was first predicted in the 1960s by British theoretical physicist, Peter Higgs, and six other scientists. However, the hypothesis was only confirmed at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN near Geneva in 2012.

Hawking’s bitter attitude towards the Higgs Boson is understandable, the CNET media outlet recalls. The famous physicist lost a $100 bet that the Higgs particle could be unearthed, plus he made a statement after the Higgs particle was finally identified, that for him physics had become less interesting. After all, as the scientist shared earlier, he believes mankind only has 1,000 years left to leave Earth, anyway.

Higgs Boson ‘cousin’ unearthed

In the meantime, the marvels that followed the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle continue to unravel, as scientists have for the first time properly observed a theoretical ‘cousin’ of the Higgs Boson, The Times reported.

The team that made the new discovery is led by Ryo Shimano at the University of Tokyo. The researches put to use the behavior of photons in superconductor metals, which when cooled to extremely low temperatures, enable electrons to move almost without resistance, ‘New Scientist’ reported.

Special vibrations, which work effectively as mathematical equivalent of Higgs particles, Ryo Shimano said, shake superconducting material cooled to nearly -273 degrees Celsius to slow down pairs of photons travelling through them, making light act as though it has mass.

This effect is closely linked to the Higgs idea of the “the mother of it actually,” Raymond Volkas at the University of Melbourne in Australia, explained to The Times.

In particle physics, the Higgs field explains the mass of W and Z bosons in the vacuum, whereas the superconductor version explains the virtual mass of light in a superconductor material. Physicists had expected the Higgs-like effect to appear in all superconductors because when super-frozen they expose their most valuable characteristic – zero electrical resistance.

But that became possible only with the help of vibrations elaborated by the Shimano team to observe a very brief pulse of light in its normal state in a superconductor, whereas particle physicists revealed Higgs boson with energetic particle collisions, Shimano said.

In just the past two months, there have been thirteen earthquakes over 6.0 on the Richter scale. Some of these quakes were incredibly intense, namely that which occurred in Nepal that ranged from magnitude 6.6-7.8. The damage was enormous and the loss of life was in the thousands.  And most recently, a magnitude 7.1-7.5 rattled the island shores of Papa New Guinea, but thankfully has not caused nearly as much damage or injury.

What I find curious about all of this recent tectonic activity is that CERN in Geneva, Switzerland (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, [French acronym]) or perhaps more commonly known in the States as The European Organization for Nuclear Research, has recently fired up its Large Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator again, just before this unusual stretch of high-magnitude earthquakes began.

The LHC is the most powerful and largest particle accelerator on the planet and while the majority of the world of science considers it invaluable to making further discoveries about our universe, some scientists including Stephen Hawking are offering fair warning of the damage it can cause to the planet, humanity and even the time-space continuum.

Just months after the discovery of the Higgs boson or the so-called “God Particle” in July 2012, CERN completed its first continuous run of the LHC which recorded around 5 billion collisions at an energy amount of 8 TeV (Tevatron scale). Only 400 of these collisions produced results even remotely compatible with that of the Higgs boson.

Simply put, the Large Hadron Collider creates the biggest magnetic field on the entire planet, second to that created by the planet itself! It may seem only speculation linking the LHC to seismic activity, but we must take into consideration how magnetism on this grand of a scale affects the layers of the Earth.

Each time CERN forces a collision, the residue energy causes massive magnetic vibrations within the Earth, therefore in my opinion it would be naïve to not at least consider that this is not somehow contributing to all of the recent quakes. And these recent “coincidences” are not the first, either.  In 2010, mass LHC activity at CERN coincided with the 8.8 Chilean earthquake­, which was the 6^th worst in our history.

Large Hadron Collider ‘shut down after causing massive earthquake’

Conspiracy theorists claim the huge scientific installation, triggered a magnitude seven earthquake in Vanuatu, in the south Pacific which was so strong it was described as “shaking the planet”.

They claim the quake, in Norsup on Malakula Island, started just 15 minutes after the last burst of energy into the LHC, which then shut down.

The LHC, run by the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva on the French-Swiss border, is the world’s largest and most powerful machine and used to collide particles at close to the speed of light in a bid to discover more about physics and the possibility of parallel universes.

The official line from CERN was that a weasel gnawed through a 66-kilovolt power cable on the LCH, which forced it to shut down.

But, a growing number of conspiracy theorists believe it was an emergency situation and had to be locked down amid fears the earthquakes could spread and get even stronger.

The quake in question happened on April 28 this year, the day of some major experiments at the LCH.

Nate Brown, owner of Christian conspiracy website Freedom Fighter Times wrote in an article that although it could be possible a weasel caused the shut down, there were a lot more questions.

He said: “This monstrous earthquake literally shook the whole planet.

 

“There is reason to believe the LHC shut down not because of a weasel, but because they shook the planet with a violent earthquake. CERN shook the world yesterday like a drunkard.

“New evidence further convicts the LHC as being the underlying factor behind the severe earthquakes, with the latest earthquake as being a major proving point.

“In this life there are no coincidences, and far too often has CERN’s LHC been operational while strange events have taken place.

“Fifteen minutes, that’s the difference, in this case, fifteen minutes from the time of the LHC’s last injection to the monster quake.

“The very possibility that CERN could be the cause behind the quake should raise questions and concerns.”

Mr Brown is not alone in his theory.

A number of other conspiracy theorists believe the LHC has been causing quakes since it was first turned on.

There are even claims it was responsible for the devastating Nepal earthquake of April 2015 in which around 8,000 people perished and 21,000 were injured.

She claimed the LHC needed to be used with caution.

CERN, of course denies its experiments at the LCH trigger earthquakes, and stands by the weasel explanation for the shut down.

However, the earthquake theory is just one of many put forward by conspiracy theorists, about the risks it poses.

The curious machine, developed across a 16-mile ring of superconducting magnets, has has previously had critics who claimed it could inadvertently create a black hole that may swallow up the world.
