Protecting yourself from the elements when you’re dealing with wind, hail, rain, or snow is vital to your survival, especially post-collapse. Without the proper shelter, you’ll likely die from awful weather conditions more quickly than you’ll die from getting sick or starving.

There are many options as to which type of shelter you can build so you’ll be ready to face that pivotal SHTF situation. Many preppers utilize their tent as a quick bug out shelter, but tents aren’t always the way to go.

Why is that? Well, the portability of a tent is nice, but tents don’t have durable walls that are strong enough to protect you from the elements. A long-term shelter, on the other hand, will be able to withstand harsh weather conditions and will keep you safe when you need it the most.
