Chicago Business Owners Rave Over Shen Yun

CHICAGO—Shen Yun Performing Arts closed its five-performance run at the Civic Opera House on Sunday, April 22, impressing audience members.

Alison Rabka, day spa owner in the Chicago area said, “We loved it. It was our first time seeing it. The costumes, the dance, the orchestra is all very entertaining. I was greatly inspired by the colors.”

New York-based Shen Yun has excited audience members around the world with their dance and music presentations, but as with Ms. Rabka, her husband Bill Spoo was also impressed with the message the performance sent.

“The message was deeply rooted in faith. Be true to your dreams and desires and don’t be fooled by status and wealth,” said Ms. Rabka.

Bill Spoo, who works in finance, said, “Good always triumphs evil was a very strong message. I was actually surprised that there were three different tour companies and different parts of the world.”

Ms. Rabka was said she was surprised that they [Shen Yun] ccould’t perform in their homeland China.

Traditional culture is “all but demolished,” due to communist rule and currently prevents Shen Yun from traveling to China, according to the company’s website. “It is outside of China that Shen Yun’s artistic creators have the ability to freely express themselves and their ancient culture. Their courage to speak up is an integral part of Shen Yun’s spirit.”

‘A wonderful tribute’

“The show was magnificent! It was beautiful!” said Tony Lacko, a retired accountant. “You can’t put it in words you have to see it and feel it. It is a wonderful tribute to the true Chinese culture,” said Mr. Lacko.

“We heard about the show at our library. They had a tea ceremony presentation and spoke to us about the show. We bought tickets and I am not sorry we did. I would love to see it again,” he added.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture by bringing together world-class dancers, choreographers, singers, and musicians from around the world.

Irina Olecko, owner of a medical billing business, said, “The show was just stunning. I loved everything about it. I want to bring my kids next year.

“I came from a communist country in Europe [Poland] and we went through exactly what the Chinese people are going through now.”

Tas Abbasi, wife of a cardiologist, said, “I can’t even tell you, it is the most beautiful thing. I recently had surgery on my shoulder and this was the most wonderful thing I experienced since. I mean it’s such a beautiful [show] that I can’t even describe. The way they move, it’s just out of this world.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts, based in New York, has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.
