SAG-AFTRA Board Member: Shen Yun ‘A feeling of lightness and joy!’

CHICAGO—“The singing is wonderful! Oh yes, the singers are wonderful,” said Charlotte Davis after attending New York based Shen Yun Performing Arts, on Sun. July 8, at Chicago’s Civic Opera House.

New York-based Shen Yun brings world-class singers, a full orchestra and a company of classical Chinese dancers wherever they tour.

A television, movie and radio actress, Ms. Davis was moved by the content of the songs. “They tell a story which is good. Actually, it’s sort of a mystical feeling that they are talking about,” she said.

Ms. Davis is also a board member of SAG-AFTRA, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

She noted that China’s cultural traditions lay deep within classical Chinese dance, allowing its movements to be richly expressive. “I wanted to see this because it is very colorful and very beautiful. The dancers are very good! It’s very graceful. The dancers have joy on their faces.” said Ms. Davis.

The performance, Khata for the Gods, deeply resonated with Ms. Davis. She explained, “I have very strong feelings for Tibet. It was beautiful and I loved the background, all the scenery. It’s beautiful, the colors are gorgeous and they’re all very precise, the dancers are very precise. I wanted to see this.”

Ms. Davis said she was drawn to see Shen Yun. “I liked the spiritual feeling that you get. China has always been very mystical. It goes back centuries and centuries, so I have always enjoyed seeking, I would say.”

As a performer herself, Ms. Davis highly recommends Shen Yun to others, and said, “It’s beautiful, beautifully done with many, many dances and that’s difficult because they are all very precise. I would recommend it other people.”

She said she would take home with her, “A feeling of lightness and joy! The colors, the scenes and the precision—wonderful!”
