NASA's Cassini Snaps Unbelievable Picture of Saturn - No Really! It's Not Believable!!

” That’s what makes NASA’s awe-inspiring snapshot of Saturn (hi-res version here) such a stunning piece of eye candy.” — LOL PALEASE!

NASA’s Cassini orbiter snaps unbelievable picture of Saturn
By Mike Wehner, Tecca | Today in Tech — 9/8/2011

Science fiction movies have spoiled us on high definition views of our planetary neighbors, but real-life photographs with equal jaw-dropping potential are exceedingly rare. That’s what makes NASA’s awe-inspiring snapshot of Saturn (hi-res version here) such a stunning piece of eye candy.

Taken by NASA’s Cassini robotic orbiter, the shot was captured from the dark side of Saturn as the Sun’s bright rays illuminated every piece of dust and debris circling the planet. Cassini has offered astronomers a never-before-seen look at Saturn and revealed more information about the planet than any craft before it. The craft has taken so many pictures of the ringed wonder that they were recently made into a short flyby film that looks like it was created by George Lucas rather than a robotic space explorer.

The Cassini probe was launched in 1997 and took a further 7 years to reach Saturn’s orbit. The total cost of its overarching objective of studying the ringed planet stands at a staggering $3.26 billion. However, the wealth of information it has wrought — including amazing pictures like the one above, and recordings of massive lightning storms on the planet — have already made it one of the best investments in space exploration. Hopefully Juno — which began a 5-year trek to Jupiter just last month — will bring us some equally stunning shots of Saturn’s neighbor.

“Unbelievable” Hi Res Picture Of Saturn:

What is even worse is the picture was taken from 2006:

What is even worse about this is the “new picture” was taken from the October 2006 Nasa fake saturn picture.

Same Picture of Saturn from 2006… and it isn’t even a picture anyway.

I use a program to do a byte for byte compare of the files. Unless they are the same it would be impossible to EVER take the same picture where all bytes match perfectly in both files.

      NASA regularly re-publishes their best photos. The Yahoo news article you reference (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/nasa-cassini-orbiter-snaps-unbelievable-picture-saturn-144133480.html) leads back to the NASA page (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap110904.html), where it clearly states this image was taken in 2006:

      “The robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn drifted in giant planet’s shadow for about 12 hours in 2006 and looked back toward the eclipsed Sun.”

      So, you are wrong about them trying to pass off an old image as new. Simple mistake, really. Does this new information change your mind?

    • Outlaw_Wales

      You uneducated mongoloid punk. Just because it has a brush/CGshopped effect you are going to start a conspiracy theory about it?
      Its reversed concave lensing (upside down and backwards) for the dummy who made the video.
      The HD camera is using a “neodymium-doped lenses with a 2 micron layer of Yttrium as a pre-filter” It’s very similar to the components of a ND-Yag laser. Plus Cassini has 14 different filters for capture of just about every spectrum.
      Its the effect as if you were upside down underwater in a swimming pool and looking upward at a bright lights while the water is glass flat and clear.
      So the photo/digital image is real!
      To the youtube video poster..Go to school and learn something and quit making shit up about things you really do not know.

      NASA hasn’t been forthcoming in all that they have discovered and since the taxpayer has payed their way this is not fair

      Some of the public is edgy these days about what the gov’t has been doing so it isn’t unreasonable for critical minds to question things.

      NASA surely knows this and still releases unclear information which makes you wonder if they are baiting some us and making the waters even more unclear.

      Anger directed against a real person is puzzling when the person is merely accusing a very secretive arm of the government.

      @Electrolux:
      “NASA hasn’t been forthcoming in all that they have discovered”

      Wait, so you’re criticizing them for NOT saying something? I can see evaluating a statement they’ve made, comparing it to some other fact, and deciding that they are in error. But to say “Aha! They didn’t say X! That means something!” seems just impossible to analyze.

      What is it you think they should be saying that they aren’t?

    • Electrolux

      @mutant_truth
      Good point. That’s not fair of me.

      NASA is going completely black, what little information they do give to the public has been thou so many gov. filters that it is doubtful how much truth is in it. I recently got back a answer from them about a blacked out area in Google Earth/ sky, the answer was simply, Secret. I could not believe they answered at all much less the answer that it was a secret. What are they hiding?

      “NASA’s Cassini orbiter snaps unbelievable picture of Saturn
      By Mike Wehner, Tecca | Today in Tech — 9/8/2011″

      Mr Wehner obviously knew it was fake so included “unbelievable” in the title. They all like to believe we are all the dumb ones when it is clear that dumbness is surpassed by them with ease.

    • O. Ryan Faust

      The constitution establishes what the government can do, and the 10th amendment prohibits everything else. They’re called “enumerated powers”, that’s why we call it ‘limited government’.

      NASA is unconstitutional.

      Government has only two valid functions:
      1. Protect the Citizens from external, military, threats. and
      2. protect Citizens from internal, criminal, threats.

      Unless NASA is engaged in one or the other, it is illegal.

    • Smoke and Steam

      With no motive, a lot of you are just following a conspiracy for the sake of it.

      Come to think of it, people who believe in conspiracies just because they don’t buy the “mainstream lies” (quoted merely because its a buzzword to many of those folks) are pretty similar to people who buy the mainstream lies just because they do.

      In conclusion, part of thinking for yourself is not disbelieving something because of your minimal “prior knowledge”. Face it, we’re all morons, to the big picture.

    • Crystali

      @Smoke and Steam.
      Oh hush up, the people do know this, it is not limited to your godly intellectual capacity only! Just because we do not believe those images are real, it is not because we don’t believe, it is darned obvious they are not real, they are an manipulated image, the evidence is there in your face. And just because we do not believe what the mainstream throws at us does not also assume we are all into conspiracy theories. I doubt there are many conspiracy theories anyhow, they are mostly fact and are becoming self evident. It is also obvious that anything the shadow government do using the puppet government is false and a wool pulling operation because that is how they operate, there is not an ounce of truth and sincerity in the entirety of them.
      NASA is made up of and comes from the Nazi Germany SS team, there is no sincerity in them either, if you want conspiracy then they are most likely like the government, just a masking front organisation to cover the truth from the people, and yes I do believe that. Yes there are those that follow something for the sake of it, but the majority of people do understand the difference. What matters is that all the so called conspiracies are proving fact, in my truth they are anyway and are proving themselves.
      Today many people can see what is going on and most of them do not do so called conspiracy theories and if you were to mention it to them they will be surprised that they got the truth before they even know about any conspiracy theory.
      Fed up with people telling everyone else to think outside a so called box, it is being twisted now, we used to hear that when people followed the mainstream, not you are associating it with truth seeking or what the hell you want to call it.

      That image is fake, master pieced by fakers with no interest in your welfare.

    • Smoke and Steam

      Who mentioned my godly intellectual capacity? I see myself as too modest to talk openly about that.

      Anyways, you have still provided no motive for presenting a fake picture of saturn.

      I’m just going at this from the opposite end you are. You see “evidence” and claim its true. I would rather see motive and work my way back. If you have some idea of a motive, other than “they lie about everything!”, then I’ll gladly listen. Until then, you really do just disbelieve because of your miniscule amount of “prior knowledge”.

      Also, we all have miniscule amounts of knowledge, not talking down on you.

    • mutant_truth

      @anon:

      “it is darned obvious they are not real, they are an manipulated image.”

      I see what you’re saying, but these are two totally different things. An image can be manipulated and still be real. I don’t know how this image was processed, but one guess is a levels adjustment on the body of the planet. To avoid overexposing the rings, the image could have been exposed at a level to preserve highlight detail in the brightest section of the image and recorded as a RAW image. This would keep much of the atmospheric banding on the body of the planet from showing up on a standard computer display, calling for an adjustment of the tonal levels to reveal the planet’s cloud bands. This is a manipulation, but it doesn’t create new data … it doesn’t lie … it just allows a standard computer display to show the data already present in the image file.

      If by “manipulated” you mean “they added something to the photo that wasn’t recorded by the image sensor in orbit,” well, that’s the kind of claim you have to back up with proof.

      So, do you have any?

      Thanks.

    • Crystali

      Just because one does not adhere to your viewed truths does not make them false by nature.
      There is many reasons why I will never trust ANYTHING that comes from NASA for reason or other, there is not enough space on this page or enough time to compile my reasoning of why NASA are experts of insincerity.
      I do own a telescope and although the image is certainly not clear like the one above, I know that Saturn has a double ring in density and even a natural image would not place the globe on the exterior of the rings like image above. Even I could have done a better job of manipulating that image.
      Ironically there is this news thread:

      /story/1091/566/NASA_Whistleblower:_Alien_Moon_Cities_Exist.html

      Even though this is not evidence per se, or even conclusive in any way it is a start to understand why I will never trust what comes from NASA…. ever.
      Disagreements will never be agreed on only lead to argument, so I will agree to disagree with you and nothing will change that.

      NASA is as big a sponge on the taxpayer as haliburton except its legal where as everything haliburton does including not paying any taxes is criminal
