Skywatchers will be hoping for clear skies from today because particles from a recent solar storm will slam into Earth and produce amazing Northern Lights, or auroras.

On the downside, experts expect radio blackouts for a few days, caused by the radiation from the flare – or coronal mass ejection (CME) – causing magnetic storms.

The flare is part of a larger increase in activity in the Sun, which runs in 11-year cycles. It is expected to peak around 2013.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center wrote: ‘Category G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storms are expected 28 and 29 December due to multiple coronal mass ejection arrivals. R1 (Minor) radio blackouts are expected until 31 December.’

Devices that depend on radio waves include GPS systems, radios and mobile phones.

A coronal mass ejection contains billions of tons of gases bursting with X-rays and ultraviolet radiation that are flung into space at around 5million mph.

They are mind-bogglingly hot – around 100,000,000C.

The Earth is occasionally hosed by these ejections, leading to amazing shimmering light shows.

Heat is on: Solar flares spray gases out at 5million mph and at 100,000,000C. Pictured is a flare that erupted in June this year

They are caused by the ionised solar particles becoming imprisoned by Earth’s magnetic field, exciting the gases in the atmosphere and emitting bursts of energy in the form of light.

However, these particles can also cause magnetic storms, which in extreme cases have been known to disrupt satellites and electricity grids.

In 1989, a CME was held responsible for leaving six million people in Quebec, Canada, without power.

Last month one of the largest storms our star can produce was detected.

Known as an X1.9 flare, it was one of the biggest seen in years.

The flare was so powerful that it disrupted communications systems on earth a short time later.

Another gigantic flare occurred in August – shown in the video below – but because it took place on the side of the Sun not facing Earth, there was no disruption to communications or power.

Look at the last image, funny if you look close enough you can see the Image of Jesus in the sun

You can tell if it’s comming towards Earth because the solar outburst has a halo effect if its pointed out way, also produces a halo when going away from Earth but easily worked out with the stero monitor. QED.

@Anonymous That’s called matrixing, you can even see images of Jesus on a dogs bum, produced by the way the hair lays and changes direction… lol

    It’s not Jesus, it’s a pirate

Amazing forces with great powers. I am thankful we have Space exploration to better help us understand some of the incredible conditions and weather fluctuations were are experiencing. Thank you for the privilege of free knowledge and learning being made available thus..I truly like the pictures and descriptions of the space condition that influence our beautiful Planet Earth.

I wonder if these are current photos or stock photos and if HAARP is just running a test to see how much havoc they can put on us.

  • It's Me Again

    I agree with Anonymous.

Again??????????? hasn’t this happened once a month over the last 12 mos??????

Nothing to see, move on. If our star wants to get us one day, she will. We don’t even understand, or know her power.

I cannot in specific remark to any of the post above, but I have been following Space exploration and Other watches; The Aurora are genuine and many a footage I watched broadcasting out of orbit travel in space, photographing storms and Toxins on earth from space appear even more surreal than the above posts. The weather fluctuations however are consistent with the solar flares being observed and I deem these reports valid on bases of haven viewed other supporting evidence with pictures and Tapes of filmed solar flares. We are living in extraordinary times, were space probes haven been launched more than twenty years ago are just now making the footage available because of the vast distances involved. Man kind is well prepared to understand and better explain great natural events and I deem this an good reason and opportunity to broaden my outlook and keep an open mind. Thank you for letting me share.

If we realise that we are following the sun we can be assured that 99,9% of major comets and other objects will end up in the sun. We get the dust compared to what hits the sun. So we need no “Cosmic Shield” were we have the sun to protect us, or to kill us all. I’m sure the sun is not aware of these iny tiny little dustparticles called humans. To other stars the sun is a pixel on a 10 mile screen

Note that the last photo is not the current CME! That photo is June. Do not confuse people like that!

yes and the sky will fall and the sun explode …QUICK ____ EVERYBODY PANIC….aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!
