It is well known that People on Mars live underground. Mars is possibly near to hollow. So I believe that the artistic terraforming of Mars is from the inner dirt being relocated on top of the surface. If I had the technology that they do, I would want the surface to look nice instead of just throwing rock. Mars is so artistic that when you look at a terraformed structure, it has a different look within the 360* radius.
