'Earth Will Have 15 Minutes To Protect Electronics'
Scientists say there will be short notice of destructive plasma cloud from solar superstorm.

WASHINGTON – Scientists around the globe are joining those in the United States in becoming alarmed at the possibility of a plasma cloud from a solar superstorm that could wipe out vast electronics networks, because they say Earth would have only a notice of about 15 minutes.
U.S. space scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrator and the National Aeronautic Space Administration’s Goddard Space Flight Center have been expressing concern over what is fast becoming a “solar storm maximum.”
And the alarms now are going off globally, with expressions of concern from European Union interests, the European Space Agency and Great Britain’s Royal Academy of Engineering, which is urging the British Space Weather Board to help that nation prepare for a massive solar flare.
“Our message is, don’t panic, but do prepare – a solar superstorm will happen one day and we need to be ready for it,” said Professor Paul Cannon who chaired the Academy’s working group.
Given the intensity of the increasing flare spewing from the sun’s surface, experts agree that scientists would have only 15 minutes of warning of an intense solar flare – a huge plasma cloud of charged particles that can become a nightmare to unguarded electronics on earth.

Right now, scientists are relying on an ageing satellite called ACE – Advanced Composition Explorer which provides the 15 minutes heads-up.

It’s common sense that solar storms would mess up satellites and power grids.It’s common sense that we wouldn’t have much warning.This is stuff you learn in grade 8 science.Nasa keeps changing its story on whether or not the sun is acting normal or getting worse but none the less this is something thats been out there for years.The rest of it is rubish they don’t care they’ve known for decades and done nothing.Realistically they have ALWAYS known at least since 1859 they built the power grids and satellites full well knowing about the risk of solar storms and did nothing.Even if they do decide to take it more seriously they can’t do anything about it.Most countries can hardly keep their infrastructure together to begin with.”Sure were gunna beef up satellites,communications,and power grids when we can’t afford to keep our roads and bridges together”.My point is people have known the risks since the 1800′s making this far from being news

If we have a super-solar flare, it will be more than electronics being fried! Anyone seen the film “Knowing”? it doesn’t take 500 scientists to tell me that ‘just’ my electronic devices will go down, the fact of the matter is, our illustrious (or notorious) leaders are hoping and praying that we all perish in one foul swoop, maybe a super storm will do the job for them, who knows?

Just another incidence of morons trying to lead morons. Notice there are not citations or links from which this information was derived from. There is a reason for that. It is, for the most part, exaggerated BS. In fact, we would have SEVERAL DAYS warning before a CME would reach us. The sun’s light takes about 8 minutes, roughly to reach us. Coronal Mass Ejections, or CME for short, are not light. It is plasma and even blown out at unimaginable speeds, these plasma clouds take generally around 3 days to reach our planet. The information he apparently took this from may have been the fact that most CME flares take about 15 minutes [eruption time]. That’s how long they take to explode on the surface of the sun. The ejected plasma takes days to actually reach us.
Below is the actual text from 9 February 2013 concerning the CME that was shot toward EARTH. Please note the dates listed.

The CME, which was captured in flight by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, billowed away from the sun at 800 km/s. The bulk of the cloud looks like it will sail north of Earth. Nevertheless, a glancing blow is possible as shown in this 3D model of the CME prepared by analysts at the Goddard Space Flight Center. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras on Feb. 12th when the CME passes by. ”
On the 12th…meaning 3 days…please make a note not to listen to this idiot anymore.
