NOT Confirmed - ISON Debris Field NOT Found

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Well, I have it straight from the horse’s mouth. The image that is going around that some say is the “massive” debris field of ISON is in fact, NOT the remnants of the comet.   It is the Integrated Flux Nebula (IFN) in that area of the sky where ISON should have been.

The imager who took the pic told me this:

——-
“Thanks, but it was reported to be visible on DSS [Sloan Digital Sky Survey.]  I think it mere a faint part of integrated flux nebula.

“I prepared a map of the area before with images obtained from Chromoscope. Their far IR image shows IFN roughly. I could not find the object on the map, and I thought it the remnant. The sausage-shaped faint object is not the remnant of C/2012 S1 ISON but a part faint of integrated flux nebula. I will image the ephemeris for a while for the real ghost of the comet. I will, of course, enjoy imaging of some objects in earlier part of the coming nights at the superb site.”

[end]
————

The IFN is the nebula that is thoughout the galaxy and it is illuminated by the energy flux of all the stars in the Milky Way.  Its everywhere in deep space.  Only the deepest images show it and the skies have to be pristine and very, very dark to pick it up.

So, there you have it.  No confirmation of ISON’s debris field.  Sorry.

Thanks for following up on this issue. Greatly appreciate it. I still believe that there is fragments but not a threat to earth.

Thank God someone isn’t riding that pony train. Thank you, ILF!

I have to tell you, I’m sick of seeing headlines about how ISON lives.

You are both most welcome.

Too bad Hiro couldn’t get it on this try, because he’s dedicated to this sort of thing and loves to show off his skills. lol The guys on the comet forums we hang at all applauded his efforts when he bagged the remnants of Comet Elenin back in 2011. It was really a great thing for an imager.

I’ll tell you my feelings – IF he couldn’t get it, no one will.
