Time Loops and Space Twists

1. What was your prime motivation and inspiration for creating Time Loops and Space Twists?

Fred Alan Wolf: I wished to go beyond metaphor in explaining some difficult but important concepts dealing with our understanding of the universe. What makes this book different from many others writing about similar topics, is the interest I take in the reader’s conceptual understanding of the material, not just an “oh wow gee whiz” book, but a real attempt to explain the deep ideas behind the concepts using some simple math concepts (also explained) and many illustrations and examples. Often the other books explain such topics but go over the heads of their readers due to topic and math difficulty or simply don’t go into the topic with any attempt to explain it. (They leave out any math assuming the reader will not grasp math at all). Because I deal with the popular public in my books, papers, and lectures I have gathered some insight into what should be graspable for the lay reader and yet challenging at the same time. My desire is to explain elusive topics so that my grandmother (who doesn’t understand a word of physics) can understand them. I admit I may have to explain to her what an imaginary number is, and how time can be a straight line in our imagination.

2. How does observing a system change how that system manifests?

Fred Alan Wolf: The quantum physical worldview is very different from the world we see ordinarily. In it we discover that observation changes probabilities into actualities. It is kind of like a baseball batter who adjusts his batting swing to accommodate the pitcher’s throw even before the ball has reached the plate. Or like the umpire who doesn’t make a call after a pitch is thrown and in the catcher’s glove. Was it a ball or strike? Until he calls it, it isn’t anything. According to quantum physics, there is no reality until that reality is perceived. We call this “the observer effect.” In the world described successfully by quantum mechanics, ultimately and fundamentally observers affect the universe whenever they observe it or anything in it. If we refine our ability to see by looking at atomic and subatomic processes the differences would be quite magnified and astonishing to our normal way of seeing.

3. How unpredictable is the unseen world and how is it impacted by our thoughts?

Fred Alan Wolf: As Woody Allen once put it, “There is no question that there is an unseen world. The problem is how far is it from midtown and how late is it open.” The unseen world is not a world of objects “out there” even though that idea seems quite sensible. It is instead a world of probabilities that strangely are both “out there” and “in here” in our minds before observation occurs.

4. How is the mind intimately connected to time?

Fred Alan Wolf: One we realize that this unseen world has both mental and physical properties through probabilities, we must conclude that spacetime and matter are connected to mind. Hence time is intimately related to mind and thought and possibility and probability.

5. When it comes to God what are your thoughts on the darkness and negativity and evil in our world when it comes to tragedy and conflict? I am curious from your perspective what knowledge you would impart regarding this from a space perspective? What is the source or root of it?

Fred Alan Wolf: The root of it all is the same root for both good and evil—it is the thoughts we believe to be true brought forward by the actions we take to survive. We live/die. We continue/perish. Anything that changes that duality risks destroying the whole shebang. Even matter has antimatter for its partner.

6. What do you mean by time loops and space twists exactly?

Fred Alan Wolf: Time-loops are journeys that loop from present to future and then backwards to the present or journeys that start in the present and go back in time and then return to the present or any combination thereof. Such loops are not forbidden by the laws of physics. Time loops explain how and why the simple idea of moving a particle backward in time appears as its own antiparticle moving forward in time. We have seen that nature insists that particles and antiparticles can only go forward in time with positive energies. Looking at these movements as going backward in time they seemingly magically to change; a forward-through-time antiparticle is the same thing as a backwards-through-time particle and a forward-through-time particle is the same thing as a backwards-through-time antiparticle. A time loop appears when we put an antiparticle and its corresponding particle together; the two appear in forward-through-time observation as a creation of a pair and a subsequent annihilation—a loop in time—a reminder of the big bang and that everything that is created must eventually be destroyed.
In exploring twists in space, which are reflected in particles as their spins, we found that there are two kinds of spin ½ particles (called fermions)—right-handed and left-handed. We also found that neither kind has mass. I called them spin ½ luxons meaning that they moved at lightspeed. There are also two families of spin ½ particles, quarks and leptons. We found that these fermionic luxons acquire their masses by interacting with a Higgs field as they zigzag through space at lightspeed ever-moving forward in time. In doing so, the particles’ trajectories appear to move slower than light and as such they gain inertia; they appear with masses. . From the special theory of relativity, we found that having acquired seed masses from their interactions with the Higgs field, these now massive luxons gain even more mass simply by moving faster. Hence fermions are fundamentally spin ½ luxonic (moving at lightspeed) space twists with no intrinsic masses.

7. What is Twisted History and what do you mean by the term?

Fred Alan Wolf: The simplest example occurs when an event in the present could have arisen from a number possible pasts. Which history actually occurs depends on the how the event in the present is chosen—different choices as to what to observe in the present changes what the past must have been to be consistent. According to quantum physics an event is only a possibility until it is observed. Since different observation can cause different events, then the history which led to the observed event isn’t actually decided until the event is observed in the present moment.

8. This is a wild card question. What would you like to share from the book that our readers might find interesting?

Fred Alan Wolf: In Time-loops and Space-twists: How God Created the Universe, perhaps I have asked too much of the lay reader to follow the peregrinations of nature as she weaves her web with loops of time and twists of space. Time loops explain how and why the simple idea of moving a particle backward in time appears as its own antiparticle moving forward in time. But Nature insists that particles and antiparticles can only go forward in time with positive energies.

I find it an amazing prospect that since all matter is made from leptons and quarks that interact through spin 1 bosons, we have come to the conclusion that the universe is nothing more than a grand lightshow on a scale of great size—the whole universe—and on the tiniest scale we might imagine—the subatomic world.
In brief what is the universe made from? Spin ½ and spin 1 speed of light particles. What makes the lightshow a show at all is their continual interaction, first the spin ½ luxons interact with the Higgs field to acquire mass and then they interact with the spin 1 luxons to modify and shape the universe into its various forms of stars, galaxies, planets, people, cells and genetic structures.
The only mystery is the Higgs field itself. I have speculated that this field acts as a mind field—the mind of God, so to speak. I have further speculated that the field generates tachyons that interact with fermions through exchange of bosons and in so doing we see how a logical seemingly mind-like activity comes into existence throughout the whole universe. We need the tachyons to produce the sudden collapses associated with observations according to quantum physics, wherein any single observation reduces a field of possibility to a single actuality. The Higgs field acting in this way makes particles out of the quantum fields that fill the universe.
We are made of light and we are all part of God’s mind. Most importantly, we are the universe itself having the experience of knowing that.

9. Do you have any links you’d like to share and what are your plans for a future book? Thanks for this interview.

Fred Alan Wolf: I am putting down some notes now dealing with “The Gravity of the Situation:
How Everything is Made of Information Within the Mind of God”. This will explore how gravity and quantum physics lead to a new picture of the universe called the holographic principle and to how the information which underlies matter/energy/spacetime/mind arises as an encrypted code which requires a quantum computer and a time loop to decrypt it.
