ISONid Meteor Shower? ZERO METEORS SEEN!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

No meteors were seen this morning (Jan 14, 2014) coming from the possible radiant of the “ISONid” meteor shower.  Not a one. Zero!  Zilch!  It was a bust.  A nearly full moon was out, so all but the brightest meteors would have been washed out by moonlight, anyway.

Comet ISON’s path through the solar system when it was still intact crossed the Earth’s orbit on its inbound trek towards the Sun around November 1st, 2013.   As of January 14, 2014, Earth has now arrived in the general area where Comet ISON crossed our orbit.   It was about 2 million miles above the Earth’s orbit to be exact.   Since the debris trail is only a few hundred thousand miles wide, no meteors were expected to be seen since the debris has not had time to spread out enough to intercept our orbit.

It was theorized that the only pieces of Comet ISON that had a chance to intercept our orbit would have been micron-sized dust particles pushed around by the solar wind.   Since those pieces were too small to burn up in the atmosphere, not many thought anything would be seen.  Those predictions have proven correct.  NO meteors, small or large, were seen by me this morning after 1 hr of observing.

For those of you still holding on to the possiblility of a “meteor storm” from the now defunct Comet ISON, I am pretty sure you will be disappointed.

By the way, NASA’s All Sky Fireball Network for Jan. 13, 2014 reported 5 fireballs were seen and they were all sporadics.  None of them had the orbital characteristics of Comet ISON, as the image above shows.  ISON’s path would have been on a line drawn from the Sun through Venus and the Earth and extending to the top of the image just left of the center.  The previous day’s orbital diagram didn’t show any with those characteristics, either.

Told you so.

I think Dec. 14 is the first day.
      We’ll see the next days.
      Thanks for the update!

Yes, that’s right. We need to give it until the morning of the 16th. If still no “ISONids” are seen, then there will not be any. But, I’ll keep trying as long as the weather is clear till then.

Personally, I was hoping we would see at least a couple. lol

i am still holding to the theory that ison will cause much grief and agony, as it rains down its mightiest of blows on humanity. now is the time to prepare, invest in a urologist near you now. surely the micron sized isonites will infect every droplet of water that falls from the heavens causing an epidemic of kidney stones. we are all, we will all become ison. resistance is futile!

        I AM ISON MAN!

        Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
        Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
        Is he alive or dead?
Has he thoughts within his head?
        We’ll just pass him there
        Why should we even care?

(sung to the Black Sabbath classic, Iron Man.) LoL!

Still no ISON-id meteors. Observations on the morning of Jan 15, 2014 and no meteors were seen. A few clouds were out towards the end of the observation, but it was nearly clear at first. I have to say it was another null result. NO meteors from Comet ISON.

Is it me or did anyone else notice how all the “ISON Debris” proponents are quiet at the moment? lol

I see they were just gearing up for that last push of BS trying to convince us that BPEarthWatch was somehow justified in making all those BS claims. lol

Guess what, people? It is the morning of Jan 16, 2014 and we’re still here. LoL.

I just came in from outside after trying to see some meteors coming from the Leo constellation area. Not a one was seen. The moonlight is really bright and would be drowning out all but the brightest meteors, however.

So, with zero meteors seen after several consecutive days, I am giving up. It is pointless. But, I knew this going into it and predicted long ago what the results would be.
