Considering the time required for the companion to depart from the G2 cloud and travel into the core, one can estimate a travel time of around 4 months. This would give us some warning so that astronomers could conduct intense study to see whether this companion might make a direct hit, and also it could give some lead time to issue a public alert for the increased likelihood of a superwave event.

to make them aware of the possibility of the launching of a Galactic superwave. A Galactic superwave is an intense cosmic ray particle barrage, accompanied by electromagnetic radiation and possibly a gravity wave that travels isotropically and rectilinearly outwards from the center of our Galaxy at very close to the speed of light. A superwave can last for less than a year or for up to several thousand years as occurred during the last ice age.

If it is at the center of our Galaxy, we have quite sometime before it would get here anyway. Sounds like a bunch of astro-babble meaningless big words.
This is interesting only insofar as the contention that core generated gamma ray fluxes might induce greater particulate formation in the atmosphere and cause increased global cooling.
As for the notion that this is some sort of direct threat to us, that is preposterous.
The galactic core is about 26,000 light years away. The fastest anything might get to us after the G2 impact is therefore 26000 years.

I think it does create particles but not if it would have any effect on cooling.
Henrik Svensmark from Denmark first came up with this notion. It seems to be fairly well confirmed now. The idea is that cosmic rays can create nucleation points in the atmosphere, which create greater cloud covering and thus cooling. I had heard they were also planning to run side experiments at CERN to test this as well.

The observations of the electromagnetic waves emanating from an object 26,000 Ly away are the observations of an object as it occurred 26,000 years ago. You are seeing the G2 cloud as it was 26,000 years ago not as it is today.

There was a program on about this a few months ago. The “cloud” is stellar mass object. Even if it gets sucked into the black hole, it may produce a bit of a blip on the monitors on Earth, but probably nothing more than that. As it is, it is expected to make only a close pass and not a direct hit.
Of course, whatever we see as about to happen actually happened 26,000 years ago. So by now the whole cloud and others of the stars orbiting the black hole may have been devoured. Even so it will be quite some time before we’ll even see it beginning to happen.

I suspect LaViolette is right about the periodic impact of galactic superwaves on a regular and recurring basis. There are two to three expanding out towards us all the time. The last major event was around 12,500 years ago and I think we are due for one in December 2019, based on the warnings of ancient civilizations.
