The world will miss the tenacity and brilliant intellect of Dr. Stephen Hawking, who died at the 76 today. We need more thinkers like him—men and women who can explore the universe with their minds and communicate what they know to the rest of us. He never pretended to have all the answers, but he was relentless in pursuit of knowledge.

Mark and I met Stephen Hawking at an event in Utah some years ago. It was very memorable, particularly the part where he got to play in a flight simulator at Evans & Sutherland. He was grinning like a kid with a huge bag of candy when he came out of the sim. My favorite memory of him.

The day before he flew in the sim, he gave a talk at an arena in SLC. To herald his arrival on stage, they played the segment from Star Trek: The Next Generation when Stephen was playing poker Data and other famous scientists in the Holodeck. As that segment ended, the lights were flashing on stage and Stephen wheeled himself on stage to an incredible roar of approval from the crowd of 17,000 people. It was one of the most amazing performances and he hadn’t even started giving his presentation.

I will always remember Stephen Hawking in that experience.  He lived his life as fully as he could, shared his knowledge with the world, and made more of a positive impression than any public figure in recent history. Now that his death is common knowledge, social media is filled with comments by people who he inspired. They, too, wanted to know more, and he shared what he knew. I hope that his explorations now take him to new realms of the cosmos.

How do you know that he has rejoined the cosmos? I am skeptic.

Indeed. If there is a God ( which I believe there is) and God is merciful enough to have let Mr Hawking get a free pass, he may very well be in a different physical realm and not at all part of the cosmos.
We really haven’t much of a clue what form , if any, we have in the next dimension.
Or even if it is or has dimension.

And of course, in the very unlikely event the atheists religion turns out to be true, he is part of nothing.

You mean the poor guy who’s disease took him over many years ago, and then propped up in his wheelchair to be used as a puppet with a voice machine monitored and replied on by someone else, has died? Aww for shame. I wonder who the next lucky invalid, politically correct, state sponsored propaganda puppet they’ll use next is going to be . ???

A very sad person. He denied any God or an afterlife. He said that was all a fairy-tale. I dismiss his ideas.

His butt is roasting in HELL!

I’d like to think God gave the dude a break and has mercy on him.
I seriously doubt if he is in hell that he is roasting.
In that case he would be in a chair with wheels on it and machinery breathing for him and shitting and pissing for him while having a brilliant mind.

I am thinking perhaps God might be tougher on you for casting such a judgement on him than He is on Mr HAwking.

One of the main reasons I bailed from mainstream ( and most other) forms of Christianity is because of those like yourself, who have no mercy and have glee over the thought that someone you don’t like might be spending eternity in Hades.
