Terrorism Database Doubles
Just about one year ago, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden fled the country and sought asylum in Russia. Now, the U.S. Government believes he didn’t act alone.
Glenn Greenwald article published this week on The Intercept exposed secret information from a document that was leaked AFTER Snowden already moved to Russia. Greenwald was one of the first to publish Snowden’s original leaks, and now the Feds are combing through their own ranks, trying to hunt down the mole.
The report shows that the Federal Government’s Terrorist Screening Database is now monitoring over 1 million people they flag as “known or suspected terrorists.” This list goes out to local law enforcement, private contractors and foreign governments. And almost 300 thousand people on this list have no ties to any known terrorist groups. The list is growing by another 900 people every day, and 25 thousand of them are American citizens.
All the CIA needs to put someone on this list is what they call “reasonable suspicion.” Until now, the White House is declining to comment on any of the newly published documents.
Meanwhile, Snowden’s 1-year political asylum officially expired last weekend. While Russia prepares for increased fighting in Ukraine and the Crimean Peninsula, at least for now, the Kremlin is not committing to extending Snowden’s security any longer.
