Civil Liberty Groups Challenge NSA, Obama
If this story sounds similar, it’s because it IS. Just last month, President Obama set a record low for approval ratings here in the US. Now, one month later he’s breaking his own records.
And this time, a lot of the dissenting voice is coming from within his own party, some of his own biggest supporters.
The NSA spy scandal is one of many items on a long list of Obama’s shortcomings, but NOW, it’s coming back to haunt him. Several civil liberties groups like the ACLU and Human Rights Watch are turning on Obama, challenging his administration on another NSA database. This one is called IC REACH, focusing on internet communications, both foreign and domestic. Over 40 civil liberty groups say it’s a clear infringement of American freedom. Their letter to the president accuses him of “undermining the fundamental rights of internet users everywhere.”
The internet spy program, approved by Executive Order, allows the NSA to review loads of information from all over the web and compare notes, all trying to track down and identify an ever-growing list of terrorists. Even the left-leaning Washington Post called the Executive Order into question, somehow blaming deceased President Ronald Reagan for Obama’s bungled NSA cover up.
While Obama is overseas, looking for answers in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine and Libya, the American homefront is burning with his own supporters, demanding answers about the NSA.
