Video: Suu Kyi Biopic “The Lady” Banned In China?
NDTV is reporting that Luc Besson’s upcoming biopic of Nobel Peace laureate/engaged Buddhist icon Aung San Suu Kyi, “The Lady”, as well as information about it, are currently being banned within China. [More, plus the film's trailer, after the jump.]“Radio Free Asia was informed by [the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's] marketing dept. that ‘The Lady’ was not listed on the screening agenda,” their report states. In addition, they describe the apparent deletions of press information and trailers from Chinese websites.
“The Lady” stars Michelle Yeoh as National League for Democracy leader who has spent 15 of the last 21 years under house arrest, and David Thewlis as her late husband, the Oxford Buddhologist Michael Aris. It is set for nationwide release in the United States on December 2nd, 2011.
