"ReWild Yourself". Daniel Vitalis on Soulspeak.

“Cultural paradigms are fickle, try to see the big picture. Everything that has a beginning has an end. Things that present as dominant and all powerful are weak and compensating. Things that are meek rest in a place of strength. Nothing is what it seems, always look deeper. Respect and value life. Support growth. Expect change. Be not the strongest, fastest, smartest, or best looking, rather be the quickest to adapt.”
DANIEL VITALIS
Maine, Maine

He is a trailblazer in the health and longevity movement. A Personal Development Strategist and Nature Based Philosopher. The co-founder of Surthrival  and Find A Spring. His philosophy has helped thousands of people to rediscover their inner physician, their inner teacher, and that part of themselves that is free and independent to think, to feel, to perceive and to lead. He is here to encourage us to re-wild ourselves and get back to our roots and heritage. It is truly an honor to have Daniel Vitalis here on Soulspeak.  The inspiration he brings to us is limitless.

Who is Daniel Vitalis? Where is he now on his journey?
Daniel Vitalis is just a name, just a legal entity. The person writing this, that’s another story. I am someone who has slipped through the cracks of society, who has followed his heart, and carved out a unique niche for himself. I am someone blessed with incredible luck, but also someone who has endured severe hardships. Today I am a man blessed with a wonderful company and an opportunity to share a message with the world. My journey is forever unfolding, and is deeply personal and spiritual to me. What I share with the world publicly is only a pie slice of my life, the rest is the personal working out of my own salvation. Most of my life is lived in Maine with a wonderful woman named Alexandra and the sweetest dog domestication has ever created.

What life experience motivated you to do what you’re doing now, awakening souls, empowering, driving people to go back to their heritage and re-wild themselves?.
There are certain things that are not a “doing” but more of a “being”. I didn’t set out to do what I am doing. I didn’t plan for it or study for it. Its just what I am. I find that I only operate in a few gears.. Observe, train, learn, teach, sleep. Everything else is a bit awkward for me. What I do is a function of what I am. This is what I am.

“Hungry For Change”... That was a real eye opener. A film that changed my life and many others. Tell me about the experience of making this and being part of the creation of it.
Hungry For Change has been an incredible experience and it was an honor and unexpected privilege to be a part of it. Honestly my part was just a simple interview filmed here at my home. I do so many interviews that I didn’t think much of it until the film was released. It has been amazing to watch its influence and ripple effect. Its funny to go into a Whole Foods now, as so many people have seen it and recognize me. It’s exciting to reach large groups of people. Overall I’d say its been fun.

Who are your major influences, mentors, teachers?
Great question, though not a simple one to answer. I think my greatest influences are people along the way who don’t have names that would be recognized here. Mostly individuals who took the time and energy to coach me along my path. I have always tried to pay this forward and am forever grateful! Professionally I was very influenced by the work of Anthony Robbins and David Wolfe. Two people who demonstrated that a person could make a great living sharing what they love and helping thousands of people along the way. Oh… and Batman. He’s badass.

You’ve traveled quite a bit. Are there any other places that you hope to visit anytime soon, and what were your favorite countries/places on earth. The best place to “re-wild” ourselves?
I am looking forward to some time in the South of Thailand with my partner Alexandra. With regard to ReWilding, I would say that Peru has been very influential and revelatory for me. I think that it is crucial for American’s to get outside of their nation-state bubble and visit some foreign lands. In fact, if you are reading this and haven’t, stop reading now and go get some tickets to somewhere exotic. It is difficult to reprogram your paradigm if you can’t see your paradigm. It’s difficult to see your paradigm if you don’t leave the constant reinforcement that is mirrored back to you by the people all around you. Truly though, ReWilding happens in the heart and mind, not so much in a place. The travel just accelerates the process.

What have you learned from yourself from this human experience? What have you unlearned?
I have observed that there is a drive in me for the experience of the sacred, to understand the creation, to understand the creator. There is a drive in me for freedom and for love. I suspect that these drives are part of our biological programming. I have learned that nearly everything we are told isn’t true or is only partially true, and to always “test the fence” to see for yourself what the real limitations are – if any. I’ve learned that the voice of the heart is always the one to follow, and that the words of others must be processed with discernment. I’ve learned that the universe is benevolent and conspires to support your vision in ways that can not be predicted, and that each person is completely responsible for the life that they are living, even if this can sometimes be difficult to accept or understand.
I got introduced to findaspring.com through the late Massimo Rosati, and he really opened hearts and minds to the importance of living spring water. Thank you for paving this road so that others may find their way to real and vital sources of water. The awareness can only grow exponentially. Tell me about the birth of this project and how it has grown to be what it is. What are the main events going on related to it?
Find A Spring  is a passion project that I have created with the help of many amazing individuals along the way. We created it to help people like ourselves find clean, healthy, living, wild water, that is free of contaminants and free from the perspective of Federal Reserve Debt Notes! It is essentially a database of fresh water springs around the world. The database is built by the users for whom it is ultimately for. I think clean water is the birthright of all living things, and it is my part in ensuring that others can have access to the magical healing waters that I do. We have recently relaunched the site with a new clean look and better functionality. I would like to see Find A Spring do much more in the future, namely help communities clean up and maintain their local springs.

What’s in your fridge right now? Tell me about your typical day’s meal.

Well, I’d like to preface this… The following is not a recommendation, or part of some nutritional dogma. It’s just my personal way.  I drink a lot of blended beverages, and lately those are berry smoothies, Yerba Mate drinks, and lemonades. Most days I don’t actually eat until late in the afternoon, but rather subsist on beverages until then. The drinks I make usually are based on a wild mushroom tea that I brew from spring water and Chaga and Reishi. I eat a tremendous amount of vegetables from our local farms, wild caught fish, grass-fed meats, pastured eggs, and grass-fed Jersey cow butter and goat cheeses. I eat seaweed and salt from Maine, and fermented foods like sauerkraut and apple cider vinegar that I make at home. I take lots of herbs, usually as tinctures that I make at home. I like simple, gently prepared foods. My diet is very high in fats and low in carbohydrates. I don’t snack much.

No one escapes this question. What does the word ‘Love’ mean to you?
Of course the word love has many connotations in our language, but I suspect you mean ultimate love as opposed to, say, loving a car, pair of shoes, etc. Love to me is that ineffable feeling of connectedness between oneself and another – or sometimes even every other. It is also the remaining force when all of the other illusions of this life are stripped away. Its that sense that you are not alone.

You’re face to face with your 7 year old self. What one piece of advice would you give YOU?
“Your inner moral compass is a guidance system that will never fail you. Trust your heart, no matter what anyone tells you – everything else is noise. People often attack what they can’t understand or what threatens the stability of their illusions, consider it feedback that lets you know you are headed in the right direction. Cultural paradigms are fickle, try to see the big picture.

What’s in the pipeline? What’s the rest of the year going to be like for you?
From the perspective of being a public speaker and business person, I am working on a new website that will be a great resource to the folks in the ReWilding community, and of course have some new products on the horizon. I am also looking to make much more of my curriculum available online, and to host some small retreats where I can work with students in a more intimate setting. On a personal level, I am volunteering with a local ambulance service and for a search and rescue team in my area. There is a cultural meme that is very pervasive right now, and its all about seizing your reality by the reigns and forcing your visions to manifest. I am more interested in going where I feel led and following the trail of clues through the mystery. I don’t take the public speaker archetype too seriously.

Any regrets?

Life is too short for this. Pressing onward is much more valuable to me than taking time to regret. It’s interesting to note that the person who has regrets is formed by the very experience that they are regretting. Its like saying “I don’t like who I am or how I have turned out”. There are many things I would do differently now, but I am very happy with who I am, despite the obvious improvements that I can always make. I’d like to be a better version of myself and that is something that happens in the now and the future, not something that results from regrets about the past.
