The Character of God

While living in this current dispensation also known as the age of the Holy Spirit or the Pentecostal age, it’s easy to get distracted. One might say that as Christians we are expected to be diligent and steadfast at all times always looking up. That however, is something that we often at times may fail to do. Like some may say easier said than done right? I would say wrong. We as believers forget to trust in the wisdom of God as opposed to our own understanding, and sadly in doing so we allow the cares of this life to corrode our spiritual understanding.

The main thing that we must never forget no matter what comes our way is the fact that our God in heaven is an eternal Being. A Being that has always existed and will continue to exist; a Being that is not restricted to concepts such as time and space or matter , gravity, physics and so on and so forth. The greatest part about all of this as well is the fact that he created it. Every single part of science we know and every single existence on planet Earth. He is the progenitor of life itself and all were created by Him. Fascinating is it not? Every single thing can be traced back to God.

Yet in our ignorance we somehow think that when things get rough that it’s more adequate to apply our logic and only ours alone. How many times have you heard, “If God is so loving why does he let people suffer?” Or, “If God is so loving why does he let bad things happen to good people?” Or, “If there’s a so-called God why doesn’t He show Himself?” It’s always why, why, why, why most of the time. I’m sure most of us even after we got saved have at some point asked that question; perhaps even multiple times. But very rarely do you hear a “how” when Man inquires the ways of God.

Before I address the common questions I’d like to address the flaw in such questions. To sum it up it would be called “argumentum ignoramus.” In order for someone to come to a conclusion would it not be wise to at least receive some knowledge on the subject? The first way to do so would be to delve into the word of God with an honest heart, not a proud one looking to pick holes in it simply to find out “contradictions.”

God is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He says it Himself:

 “I am the Alpha and the Omega the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, who is, who always was, and who is still to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8).

That right there tells us that He is already outside of our own perceived reality. In other words we cannot measure Him the same way that we measure ourselves. Doing so would limit who God is, at least as far as our own perception is concerned. So since it’s established that He is above our own reality and comprehension it’s better to accept his opinion on human affairs.

God says that no human being is righteous. Many fail to realize that God is pure perfection, meaning that He does not allow any flaws. That also means that just one sin committed by someone is worthy of punishment. A price had to be paid for Man. Otherwise we would be hell bound destined to burn for all eternity. That price was the life of Jesus Christ. Because of God’s perfect nature only a man who never sinned would be a worthy sacrifice. Let’s take a look at some verses. The Word of God already refutes many of the questions thrown at our Maker that mock his deistic attributes.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8).

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good” (Psalm 14:1).

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good” (Psalm 53:1).

“Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you” (Psalm 143:2).

Let’s always remember to be grateful to the Lord for his many eternal provisions and blessings. Let’s all strive to meet him and may we not be ashamed when the time comes to be in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
