What Makes a Human being Human
Human beings possess all the essential characteristics of minerals, plants, and animals. And yet, at the same time, we can also be open to levels of reality that transcend the visible world. This potential for holistic completeness is the quintessential human quality. This is what makes a human being human.

“This potential for holistic completeness is the quintessential human quality.”
The dictionary definition of ‘human being’ is: “NOUN. A man, woman, or child of the species Homo sapiens, distinguished from other animals by superior mental development, power of articulate speech, and upright stance.”
While it’s true that a considerable number of other animals give every appearance of not being self aware, eg if you give a sheep a mirror it will think it’s another sheep looking back, do the same to members of the ape family they know it’s a reflection of themselves, same with members of the whale family and others. We now know that gorillas can communicate via sign language so are articulate and they can learn new tricks same as we can. Crows not only have their own language but regional dialects, walk upright and can learn new tricks.
So basically any definition is out of date and incorrect. We are aware we as a species are destroying the only home we have and all but a few care not for the consequences. Because other animals don’t do this, I would suggest the opposite of your claim. Human beings are reckless and irresponsible monsters for the most part.
