Days Out: Little Kit's Coty or the Countless Stones
Little Kit’s Coty is walking distance from its more famous partner, Kit’s Coty House, which I blogged about yesterday. The large stones of the Neolithic burial chamber were pushed over in the 17th century and are now a jumble of sarsens, but to me the site has more magical energy than the more iconic uprights and a massive capstone of Kit’s Coty.
This is the third of the Medway Megaliths that I visited earlier this month, and I’ve talked about the energy at all of them. Coldrum Long Barrow seemed the most magical while Kit’s Coty House felt oddly lacking in energy – perhaps because it is enclosed in an iron fence.
Little Kit’s Coty seemed to have an atmosphere of mystery about it. Locals often call it The Countless Stones because, according to legend, it is impossible to count all the stones. According to the tale, they constantly move about. I’m not sure what happens if you do manage to count them – I didn’t try.
