Jack Gale on Greewich and the Goddess Holda
I’m sorry to say I didn’t take notes. This was partly because I’d had a very stressful day and just wanted to sit back and be entertained, and partly because I thought I already knew most of what the talk was going to be about. I’d previously heard Jack talk about his book Guardians, Goddesses and Groves: Awakening the Spirit of the Land,and had also been on a Selfs folklore walk around Greenwich park.
In actual fact, Jack’s talk was based on his new book Holda Queen of Ice and Fire. As publisher Cappall Bann says about the book on its website: “Holda, as a north European goddess of winter, sexual lore, animals and the Underworld has something to say to many people. In this book Jack Gale not only relates folkloric accounts of and references to Holda, but also draws on his own magical working experiences and those of his friends and colleagues.”
His talk was a very entertaining account of magical encounters with the Goddess Holda, and I very much look forward to reading his book.
