      I have been in many challenging situations in my life. As you will read in the pages of this book, my friend David the Shepherd challenged my heart and mind to the maximum. 

     He only had a few weeks to live yet he made the most of them. Not once did I hear him complain by saying, “It’s not fair!” or “Why me!”

     At times, I would sit and stare at him and feel what he was going though.  There were also times when I wondered who was actually dying, him or me.

     I lived with David, in a small caravan, 24 hours, 7 days a week for a month. He demonstrated to me, every second of the day and night, the courage it took to look death in the eyes and not shrink away like a mangy dog.

     I am dedicating this book to all the unspoken of people who unselfishly and willingly give their time to sit with terminally-ill people who have no moral support or friendship in the final hours. You are the true heroes.
