5. Real Golf 2011 by Gameloft S.A (Free, or £2.99)

If you want to leave the cartoon 3D graphic world behind and instead play a game resembling real golf, then as the name suggests, Real Golf 2011 is a good choice. With a graphic system that has been tweaked for iPhone4 this is one of the best looking golf games there is.

What is particularly good about this game, other than the graphics is the control system which has two different types to ensure players can select their ideal method of control.

Spin is easy to add to the ball when in the air too and with a host of top stars to pit your wits against, this is a high quality golf game that is also available in HD for the iPad.

4. Let’s Golf 3 by Gameloft S.A (Free)

Another Gameloft offering now and this time it is Let’s Golf 3 that has whetted our appetite and once again, the company showcases its slick presentation skills with a visually stunning game.

Whereas Real Golf is a golf game sim, Let’s Golf 3 is much more an interactive game featuring superb cartoon graphics that are vivid and bright and a superb multiplayer mode for online play.

With a variety of courses and the chance to create your own avatar and play tournaments with others from around the world, Let’s Golf 3 is a quality golf game for young and old alike.

3. Super Stickman Golf by Noodlecake Studios (Free)

We reviewed this app not so long ago and there is a reason it is one of our favourites and that is, quite simply, the gameplay.

For sure, the graphics may be basic, kindly it could be called retro, and yes, it may not look as spectacular as some of the other games, but where Super Stickman Golf scores highly, is in playability.

With a load of courses across the globe to take on and a fantastic multi-player mode, Super Stickman Golf is a game you’ll return to time and time again.

2. Flick Golf by Full Fat Productions Ltd (£0.69)

The very best golf games have an addictive quality that means that they are not just easy to pick up and play, but that they almost call out to you to play them while you are busy working or otherwise.

Flick Golf is precisely that kind of game.

The graphics are bright, colourful and look excellent, especially on an iPad, but regardless of which machine you play it on, this is a game that redefines addictive simplicity.

A flick of your finger is all that is required to play shots add spin and more to try and get that perfect shot. It is a brilliant, addictive, simple yet entertaining game.

1. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 by E.A. Sports (£0.69 to £2.99)

Quite simply, if you want to play golf on your iPod, iPhone or Android device and want to play it as close to realistically as possible, then there is only one choice. EA Sports, Tiger Woods 12.

As with most EA Games, the attention to detail is incredible, the graphics are stunning and the gameplay absorbing.

This is not a game you’ll while a few hours away on at times, it can involve you for days, weeks or months at a time.

Packed full of features, including the chance to play as some of the world’s top golfers over a variety of seven incredible courses. Tiger Woods may not be top of the golf rankings, but his game still has the edge on all its rivals.
