Early Odds on Vikings 2013 Chances

There seems to be a fair amount of unrest in the Minnesota Vikings camp at the moment. Trade rumors abound with the likes of Percy Harvin and the draft discussions are heating up by the day. However, it is often forgotten that the Vikings had a surprisingly successful season last year and have plenty of pieces to build on. They had an excellent winning percentage–one of the highest in the NFC and the NFL, in fact–and found themselves sneaking into the playoffs. Yet, the odds makers aren’t looking to kindly on the Vikings chances at winning the 2014 Super Bowl.

So let’s look at how the current betting is stacking up. Firstly, the Vikings are near the bottom in the NFC in betting odds. There are currently only four teams with worse odds to win the NFC. Some bookmakers are offering odds as long as 25/1 on them winning the National Football Conference and the only team with substantially worse odds is the bottom one–the Arizona Cardinals, which is priced at 50/1. For a team that proved itself to be one of the six best teams in the NFC, that’s not much respect. In terms of winning the Superbowl, the odds are stacked even further again our Purple and Gold. You can find prices as high as 67/1. Maybe there’s an opportunity for us Vikings fans to take advantage, although with the significant pain in our past, don’t come complaining to us if the odds don’t prove to be in your favor come the end of next season. The odds for us Vikings fans aren’t ever in our favor come the end of the season.

There’s a lot of planning and positioning to be had in the coming months. It’s likely these early future odds will shift and shimmy a number of times over the summer. So don’t panic just yet.
