Sunday’s Game: What It Means For Gang Green

#WinAndWereIn: The very popular twitter hashtag that Jet fans have trending after Sunday’s overtime victory over the Patriots. Beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and Gang Green will be headed back to the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

Rex Bowl Part II: After the Bills handed the Jets their fourth loss of the season, many expected this week 17 matchup to be sort of a “play in” game between the two teams because after the week 10 defeat, Rex Ryan’s team were ahead of the Jets in the wild card standings. A lot can change over a month, just ask the players in the Buffalo Bills locker room. After their week 10 win over the Jets, they have fallen to 7-8 on the season, missing the playoffs. In no way is this going to be an easy game for the Jets. On the road, freezing temperatures, and an opponent who already beat them earlier in the season, Todd Bowles has shown over the past five weeks that he will get his team prepared and ready to play in these meaningful December football games.

Super Bowl In Buffalo? Bills RB Boobie Dixon claimed that this week’s season finale was the “Super Bowl” for the Bills. Former Jets DT TJ Barnes, now playing for the Bills agreed with Dixon by saying “Basically our Super Bowl for us” because it is the last game for Buffalo. At the same time, Barnes praised Todd Bowles, saying he deserved Coach Of The Year. Rex Ryan did not utter the words “Super Bowl”, all he said was that the Jets were going to get the Bills best shot. Make no mistake, after seeing Ryan’s reaction after the Bills’ victory at MetLife Stadium in week 10, he is going to treat this like the Super Bowl because nothing would make him happier than keeping the team that fired him out of the post season.

Fitzmagic and Gailey Return To Where It All Started: Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chan Gailey were together for four seasons in Buffalo before being shown the door after not having a single winning season. Fitzpatrick admitted that this week’s matchup will have “a little extra meaning”. The journeyman QB also added that he and Gailey have “unfinished business”. Revenge against their old team would be great but making the playoffs for the first time in his career should be plenty of motivation for Fitzpatrick. As for Chan Gailey, making the playoffs for his first season back after taking an extended break from football would be a tremendous accomplishment. He has done an outstanding job as offensive coordinator for the Jets, turning around an offense that was one of the worst in football for the past three seasons. He has most certainly earned consideration for Assistant Coach Of The Year and it would not be a surprise if he lands a few head coaching interviews during the offseason.

Long Time Coming For Marshall: Pro Bowl WR Brandon Marshall entered this season without having been to the playoffs. Now in his tenth season, Marshall stated on Showtime’s “Inside The NFL” that making the post season would be a “dream come true”. Brandon Marshall will most certainly be playing with tons of motivation in Sunday’s win or go home game for the Jets.

“Same Old Jets” Would Be No More: After the Jets 2010 run at the AFC Championship, fans were subjected to their team ruining Christmas vs the Giants, Tone Time’s Miami meltdown, Tebowmania, the butt fumble, and John Idzik. All of that equaled four embarrassing seasons of Jets football and a complete house cleaning but when Jets Owner Woody Johnson hired GM Mike Maccagnan and Head Coach Todd Bowles, he wanted to “Get back to the business of winning”. 10 wins later, the Jets are one game away from succeeding. A playoff birth will make the Jets a dangerous team that nobody will want any part of in January and will put everybody on notice that these are not the “Same Old Jets’ under this new regime.
