Spieth Heads US Open Odds After Masters Capitulation

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Despite his wild finish at Augusta, Jordan Spieth is the favourite to win his third major title at this years US Open, taking place at the Oakmond Country Club in Pennsylvania. Spieth found himself five strokes clear heading into the back nine on the final day of the recent Masters, before a meltdown meant that he eventually had to settle for a tie of the runner up spot. Englishman Danny Willett produced the round of his life to claim his first major title and with it the much coveted green jacket.

American Spieth will certainly be looking to make amends for this final day antics at Augusta, as he competes in his homeland before heading to Scotland with the Open Championship in his sights. Having won the title last year, Spieth is 7/1 on with bookmakers Coral to successfully defend his US Open crown this time around. The world ranked number two finished in the top four of each major competition last year, and has certainly continued to show the consistency required to challenge in differing conditions this year so far. Rory McIlroy knows only too well about final day collapses at Augusta, and if you fancy betting on the US Open at Coral, the Northern Irishman is currently priced as the 8/1 second favourite.

Golfing legends have rallied around Spieth after his final round showing at Augusta, with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player just two of the great names backing the talented twenty-two year old to quickly rediscover his form. Spieth has recently been rewarded for his dramatic rise to stardom with the prestigious Laureus award alongside the likes of tennis player Novak Djokovic and Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton. He will now be looking to add to his trophy haul in Pennsylvania, and is 14/1 with Coral to repeat last years feet and finish in the top five of the remaining majors of the season.

With US Open betting kicking off a summer of golfing action in style, the tournament could well provide a clearer indication of who will be the frontrunners for the Open Championship which follows shortly after the event at Oakmond. Last years winner Zach Johnson is a massive 50/1 on to repeat his achievement, while more familiar contenders in World number one Jason Day and countryman Adam Scott are seen as more likely candidates at 6/1 and 20/1 respectively.
