Casilla Out As Closer, Bullpen Blows Lead
WOW!!! That’s the only thing that came out of my mouth last night after I watched the San Francisco Giants bullpen blow the game in the 9th inning. Just when you think things will start to turn around, and we’ll have our first two road wins since the end of June, early July… Santiago Casilla and the bullpen find a way to blow the 2-run lead in the 9th.
It started off with Casilla throwing a meatball to Colorado Rockies slugger Nolan Arenado, and him taking Casilla deep to make it a 1-run game. Casilla bounced back to get a strikeout, but then gave up a single to Tom Murphy with another meatball pitch. That was it for Casilla, manager Bruce Bochy seen enough. This guys is supposed to be our closer, but it’s obvious to all Giants fans that the team needs to figure out the next option for the closer role. I believe Casilla knows he’s not the future closer for the remainder of the season. He showed no emotion when Bochy pulled him out. I think he’s starting to realize that he’s just not doing his job. He has 7 blown saves on the year, and I think he should have been credited last night with the blown save as well.
LHP Josh Osich came into the game to face pinch-hitter Charlie Blackmon. It didn’t take long for Osich to get wild and nail Blackmon and put the winning run on base.
Next up was Joe Nathan who got Nick Hundley popup to left-center field but Angel Pagan was not able to get there in time to make the catch. That loaded the bases with still only one out. Then pinch-hitter Cristhian Adames got the game winning hit off the right-field wall to stun the Giants and steal the game!
