Ravens Lose Again, 24-16 to Jets

There truly is nothing left to say about the Ravens. The lack of talent on both sides of the football is alarming. The bye week is much needed for injured players to heal but even that won’t be enough to help the Ravens in 2016.

The two biggest plays in this game were Geno Smith getting injured on a Matt Judon sack and Alex Lewis getting called for a hold to bring back a huge Terrance West run. If either of those goes the other way, I think the Ravens still come out on top here.

That said, let’s not kid ourselves – this team is BAD. Perhaps if some of the guys on the inactive list weren’t starters, they wouldn’t be quite this awful, but they’d still be pretty atrocious. Joe Flacco plays like he’s about to get crushed (which he usually is, but pre-injury, that didn’t faze him), it seemed like every player on the Jets was faster than every player on the Ravens, and the run-pass ratio was once again heavily skewed in the wrong direction.

And for the second time in three weeks, the defense took the ball away, only to give it back on THE SAME PLAY! Are you kidding me? You can’t write this stuff.

They managed ZERO red zone plays against the 23rd ranked defense in the NFL. They had two first downs in the second half. They’re just bad.

And the icing on the cake? It looks like they lost even MORE starters to injury. This ship is going down fast, folks.

I’m struggling to make sense of this team, and it’s really becoming increasingly frustrating. I’ve questioned every single aspect of this Ravens team today from coaching to motivation to work ethic to condition to actual talent, and I honestly don’t see a single answer right now that doesn’t look like, sound like or smell like a blow up & rebuild scenario.

At this point, the Ravens need to take the bye week to clear their heads, but the look of this team moving forward should focus on your young players first and foremost. The 2016 record is becoming the afterthought. I don’t care if they win out or lose out. Seeing what talent – if any – you actually have moving forward to formulate a game plan for the future should be front and center. And that “talent search” should include the coaching and the front office. Everybody should be on notice.

At least I can now explain why attendance and TV ratings are down in the Baltimore market.

The Ravens aren’t a very good team. And a mediocre team can’t afford to make stupid mistakes.

Long runs nullified because of penalties, fumbling after a fumble recovery, and poor, predictable play calling. Can you imagine what’s going to happen when the Ravens play a good team? They aren’t going anywhere in 2016.

This team is bad. Just flat out bad. Yes the amount of injuries hurt, but even if those guys play, they don’t win this game. Poor Steve Smith Sr. came back for this.

The play calling is still ridiculously bad. How does Flacco pass 44 times with a sore shoulder? You have quality running backs so use them! Or at least give them a chance to be successful. But 12 rushing attempts is not okay. Flacco looks awful. The O-line is pathetic.

The Defensive Line shows good signs, but the secondary is just awful. And why can’t the Ravens tackle? It is just flat out awful.

This team will not win 6 games, so two double-digit loss seasons are in sight. I have supported Harbaugh and still believe he survives the season, but the chances of him returning are diminishing.

This offense is pathetic. I feel bad for this defense for keeping it in games, and it’s not even that good. Flacco is having his worst season as a pro, and this was his worst game. My preseason prediction of 8-8 is looking like a pipe dream. They’ve gone 3-4 against by far the easier side of the bye. If Flacco continues to look like this, they’ll be lucky to see 3 wins from here out.

On the plus side, at least there’s Justin Tucker. And Matt Judon. And oh yeah, Brandon Williams.

Ugh. This team is just plain bad. Yes, having 7 starters on the inactive list makes it especially difficult, but there still should be enough talent to beat a bad Jets team. Yet, missed tackles and badly timed penalties keep happening. We know Flacco is prone to inconsistencies, but the difference in his play in the 1st half versus 2nd half was about as wildly disparate as could be.

Ugh.
