Kris Bryant has some advice for LaVar Ball

LaVar Ball has somehow become the biggest story of the 2017 NBA Draft. With his son Lonzo being considered one of the top prospects for June’s draft, LaVar has appeared on several TV shows promoting his new Big Baller Brand Shoe. The guy has claimed he can beat Michael Jordan, offered advice for Kyrie Irving, compared BBB to Nike/Air Jordan and even said Lonzo is better than Steph Curry. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. At some point, this is all going to backfire on him and effect Lonzo. Which is sad because Lonzo actually seems like a good kid and has a chance to be a star at the NBA level. Maybe he should listen to an athlete who is young and has recently taken the baseball world by storm. That guy? Kris Bryant. During an appearance on 670 The Score’s Bernstein & Goff show Wednesday, Bryant offered some advice for LaVar and Lonzo:

“You just look at the situation, and you see that obviously he’s a great basketball player, but you’re just putting way too much pressure on him. “There’s already enough pressure for us as athletes. We want to be the best on the field and do as good as we can. But then when you look your parents and your parents are putting that extra pressure, you just want your parents to support you and be that person that you can go to and just talk to them when you’re struggling and not have to worry about him comparing you to some of the greatest players of all time. You don’t want that pressure on you. I’m sure he thinks his kid is going to do great. Myself, if I was in that situation, I’d definitely say, ‘Dad, chill out, just a little bit please. Just let me go out there and play and try to establish myself and just do what I’ve been doing my whole life and be a basketball player and you just be dad.’ That’s what I’d tell my dad.”

Bryant has a very special relationship with his father Mike who is a baseball instructor in Las Vegas. Mike helped Kris work on his swing and provided a path for him to succeed, and so far Bryant has.
