Sanchez Is Back With The Yanks To Face Cubs

All went well with Gary Sanchez‘s rehab stint with the Yankees Triple A team, the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Yankees catcher is expected to rejoin the club today. The opponent? The World Champion Cubs.

Just a few days ago, the New York Post reported this:

“I want to talk to my coaches a little bit more and see how he feels,’’ Girardi said of Sanchez, who was slated to catch six or seven innings Tuesday, repeat the process Wednesday and be the designated hitter Thursday. “My inkling is to put him back in the two-hole. I like him in that spot. In a National League city maybe I do something different, but that’s kind of an inkling…

Recall that Sanchez headed to the disabled list after five games before he left on the April 8th game at Baltimore when he suffered a right biceps problem swinging a bat. But apparently he is back to his old self as he “swung at the first pitch he saw Tuesday night during his debut with the Triple-A Scranton RailRiders and crushed it over the right-field fence,” reported the NY Daily News.

Great news for us! It looks like Sanchez will play in the game opener on Friday afternoon in Chicago, a team that we may very much rival in team youth, spirit and grit.

It is a match-up to look forward to folks with our rookie catcher very much in the mix.
