Wednesday: Buc-Brewer Rubber Match, Glasnow v Chase Anderson, Lineup, Notes

Lineup: Starling Marte LF, Adam Frazier 2B, Cutch CF, Josh Bell 1B, David Freese 3B, Jordan Luplow RF, Elias Diaz C, Jordy Mercer SS & Tyler Glasnow. So Clint took out Marte against the lefty yesterday and Polanco against the righty tonight? We’d love to see the computer data that generated those moves.

Pitchers: Tyler Glasnow (2-6, 7.45) and Chase Anderson (9-3, 2.93) go at it for the series winner. Tyler is giving Trevo a day off in Clint’s September’s rotational musical chairs, as with Jamo and Ivan. Glasnow made one big adjustment at Indy – he’s working exclusively out of the stretch, and the simplification seems to have worked. He got his velocity back to snuff, his side pitches have more movement and he’s improved his command with just 1.8 walks/nine IP in his final seven starts. The 24-year-old will be making his 13th big league start of the season and frankly was pretty bad – he went 2-6/7.45 before being optioned to Indy in June. He bounced back there, going 9-2/1.93, which is what he had done last year in AAA, so we’ll see how it translates this time around. He was charged with four runs (three earned) in 6-1/3 IP and lost 6-2 to the Brew Crew in his only 2017 appearance v Milwaukee. Chase Anderson is getting plugged into Jimmy Nelson’s spot now that Nelson is on the DL. He (Anderson) won his last start against the Cubs, going five innings and tossing 67 pitches in a Brewer blow-out win Saturday. Tonight will be the first time he’s made back-to-back starts without four days rest, so we’ll see if that has any impact on him, especially later in the game. He already has a Bucco scalp this year, winning 4-2 in June. He went six innings and gave up two runs on two hits with seven K.

Notes:

• Fraze has gone 5-for-11 in the four games since coming off DL Thursday.
• Eli Diaz has started 9-of-12 games including tonight; he was off yesterday to get a blow while in an 0-for-13 funk (plus it was Stew + Cole Train).

• The Pirates have lost six-of-seven; they’re off tomorrow.
• The appearances of relievers Dan Runzler Monday and Jack Leathersich Tuesday ran the total to 47 players used by the Pirates this season (24 pitchers); everyone left on the roster has now appeared sometime during the season…The Pirates used a club record 55 different players last year.
• Congratulations to the playing-out-of-their-minds Cleveland Indians; they’ve won their 21st straight game today, an AL record. The longest streak belongs to the 1916 NY Giants with 26 straight games w/o a loss (they did tho have a tie).
