Tom Brady Becomes The First NFL QB To Reach 600 Touchdown Passes

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady made history in yesterday’s matchup against the Bears, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to throw 600 career touchdown passes. The historic moment happened with just 10 seconds left in the first quarter, Brady throwing the ball to WR Mike Evans for a 9-yard touchdown.

Ironically, Evans must not have known the significance of that pass, as he proceeded to throw the ball to a fan in the stands. Only afterwards did he find out, with Bucs coach Bruce Arians jokingly telling him that “You’re gonna have to go give that guy two jerseys to get that ball back. Either get two of Tom’s [or two of yours] but you need to get that ball back for him.”

A Tampa Bay official was able to retrieve the ball, giving the fan a different game ball and promising him some sort of signed jersey, this according to CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

“That was really cool. I got it in the bag over there,” Brady said. “Mike gave it away. He goes, ‘Man, I’m sorry, man. I’ll get it.’ I said, ‘It’s alright. I’m sure they’ll find a way to get it back.’ But I don’t actually keep too many things so … in that circumstance, I just felt like that might be a good one to keep.

“He’s gonna get something nice in return. So we’ll get him a helmet or a couple jerseys or some other stuff. That was really cool of him to do that.”

Many fans think the lucky guy should have kept the ball, with some sports memorabilia experts claiming the ball could be worth anywhere from $500,000 to $750,000. In fact, the fan (later identified as 29-year-old Byron Kennedy), said “I was hesitant to give it back. I knew how much it meant to Tom and I was willing to trade.”

He’s a better man than me, as I would have been hightailing it out of the stadium on the double!

Congrats to Tom Brady on setting this amazing record, one that likely won’t be broken for many years to come.
