Four-year-old killed after being stabbed 36 times with scissors as pregnant mother desperately tried to defend him

A four-year-old boy died after he was stabbed 36 times with a pair of scissors during a home invasion in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Dakota Lane and his six-year-old brother were sleeping when the attack took place.
The boy’s mother Stephanie Lane, who is eight months pregnant, tried to fend off the attacker, but her son Dakota died later in hospital.

Aaron Michael Laconsello, 18, was arrested soon after the incident on the campus of nearby Bacone College, on suspicion of first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
According to Corporal Pedro Zardeneta of Muskogee Police, officers were sent to the mother’s home on Tuesday night to investigate a report of a mother and small child being assaulted.

He said Muskogee Police officers performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived.
The boy was first taken to Muskogee Regional Medical Center and then was flown to Tulsa, where he was pronounced dead.
Mrs Lane was treated and released by medical personnel at the scene. Dakota’s year-old brother was unhurt.
Family members said Mrs Lane, who works in the cafeteria at Sadler Arts Academy in Muskogee, did not know the suspect and so far there appears to be no motive for the attack.

Laconsello, who is from Tahlequah, had been living in a house on the Lanes’ street in Muskogee for the past few weeks.
‘In a criminal action, you usually have some answers. It may not be something that someone likes, but you usually have some answers. We don’t have any answers to that,’ said Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore.
‘It’s a horrible, horrible tragic incident.’
