Indian Numerals and the Signs for the Planets

  When you study the history of Western Civilization, you will learn that  Roman numerals were not displaced until the 13th Century AD. This came about when a man named Fibonacci (or more correctly Leonardo da Pisa), published his  Liber abaci which means “The Book of Calculations”.  In the beginning of the book we read-

  “These are the nine figures of the Indians: 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. With these nine figures, and with this sign 0 which in Arabic is called zephirum, any number can be written, as will be demonstrated.” 

  That is, Fibonacci introduced both the ‘number’ zero and the ‘indian’ numerals to the west. If you look at the numerals beside the signs used for the planets, you can see that they ‘look like’ each other.

  You will recall that the Greeks and Hebrews used the same figures to represent both letters and numbers, meaning that to them, words WERE equivalent to numbers. This is the source of what is called Gematria. But here we can see that the Indian numerals were designed to represent the signs for the planets. The connection between Jupiter and the number 4 is the easiest to see. Most of the 8 can be seen in the sign for Mercury. The curve of the 9 matches the curve of the moon’s sign, and the sun’s sign matches the circle in the 6. Opening the circle on the Mars sign produces the 5.

  Remember that the Roman Numeral for 10 was an X, which is used for the add and multiply signs. The earth is represented by a circle with two crossed lines inside of it. Two 1′s if you will. You have to open the circle on the Venus sign and cross your 7 like Europeans do to make those match. The match between Saturn’s sign and the number 3 is more evident in the next image. This is how WE were taught to draw a 3 when I was younger. Straight line, straight line, curve. If you know the Hebrew letters, you will see that this sign/symbol resembles their letter Yad (I, J and Y).

  The Tree of Life depicts the Greek story of the descent of the soul from the heavens to the earth, as well as the return journey via seven ‘planetary spheres’. The earth is at the ‘bottom’ of the Tree of Life. Notice how the 2 looks like the ‘Z’ in the word zodiac. Europeans ‘cross’ their z’s to keep from confusing them with 2′s for this reason.

  You can easily see that this requires ten spheres to put Saturn at 3 and the earth at 10. Note that the introduction of the Tree of Life coincided closely with the introduction of the Indian Numerals, and that they comprise a system of thought together.
