Movie Stunt? Blackbirds Fall From Sky Over Arkansas said to be movie promo...

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A rain of blackbirds over Arkansas is now said to be a failed movie promotion.

From Dateline Zero 1,000 3,000 blackbirds rained from the Arkansas sky shortly before 1/1/11. Shortly after that date arrived, 20-miles of dead fish began stinking up the same state. Now Louisiana is reporting that blackbirds are falling from the sky in their state as well, and more dead fish are being reported — at the Chesapeake Bay. UPDATE: Dead birds may have turned up in Kentucky as well.

If one report is true, it turns out there was no mass government testing on birds — at least in Arkansas. According to something called the Bennington Vale Evening Transcript, the dead birds were a result of a failed stunt to promote the upcoming remake of Alfred Hitchcock‘s 1963 classic, The Birds.

According to this story:

The film won’t be out until 2013, yet the studio decided to get a head start on its promotion. The promotion bombed spectacularly and the inhabitants of Beebe, AK were the hapless victims. A studio exec, perhaps cowering in fear in some bunker somewhere in the aftermath, tells the BVET, “The stunt was a gross miscalculation. We were trying to help get audiences interested in the remake with a small scare. Unfortunately, the planes dropped the birds over Arkansas instead of Northern California where our marketing crews were waiting to hand out movie posters and swag bags.”

The Governor’s office in Arkansas is promising legal action against the studio for this failed piece of guerilla marketing, which further makes the case that Hollywood should end this remake plague and come up with some new ideas already.

For freaking sakes, I don’t buy this crap for a few reasons.

The government is being told that a marketing executive — who remains anonymous — that the promotion actually intended to drop the birds over Northern California. In other words … if the promotion had not failed, Northern California would have had blackbirds dropping from the sky and dieing of massive trauma? That’s still a little hard to believe.

Blackbirds are reportedly falling from the sky over Louisiana now, too. Is this a failed second attempt? What about the 20-miles of dead fish in Arkansas, that appeared about the same time. Not likely. Continue reading this, from the full article at DATELINE ZERO.
